Meanwhile, I'd be happy to make a new home for some of the machines that must be getting liquidated as a result. ;)

Yeah, it's pretty sad.

But really, there are still arcades all over the place here, and the good ones usually have plenty of people in them whenever I go.

While in the US arcades tend to rely on ticket redemption games, on this side of the pond it seems that UFO Catchers/Crane Games and Pachinko/Slots probably make up the majority of their income.

So basically just different forms of the same idea? Play a game; get something. People are motivated by rewards--even when the rewards are worthless. ;)
