ok, so I am assembling a comp, the one I got from SirPhobos, I have several parts (harddrive, cpu fan, case fan) already ordered from newegg....and as I was browsing through the video cards I got REALLY confused, and I was wondering if someone could help me pick out a good one. I need a PCI Express X 16 card not going over 200$, maybe a little but not to much. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Depending on your flavor, ATI X1950 Pro or Nvidia 7800 GS.
Both are ~200.

D'oh! I meant 7900 GS. Sorry. And yeah, It's a pretty good card. Friend of mine has one in his dell.
Also, check out tomshardware.com for parts reviews, comparison charts.. etc. so you know which card will perform better.

Well, I guess that's a decent choice. I must say that I'm partial to nVidia simply because their drivers suck less than ATi's, and they can actually be made to work on Linux.
The state of modern video cards is kinda sucky, actually. The turnaround time and time to market has just gotten too short for any real QA to happen.

I will be running windows XP (or vista whenever the bugs are worked out of it) so the video card will work great for me since I don't know shit about linux, nor do I plan on running linux anytime soon

Yes, that's one reason *I* prefer nVidia over ATi. You will probably be happy with the fact that their drivers are worlds better even on Windows.
ATi is well known for shoddy drivers. They make fine hardware, but their drivers have historically sucked, and I've heard nothing recently in terms of change. Perhaps now that they're in bed with AMD...
