James Brown died today.

I will share with the class my only James Brown story:

Years and years ago--likely before many of you were born--I went to Space Camp (technically Space Academy, their program for slightly older kids). I was there during the time that James Brown was in jail.

At one point during our mission, one of the crew members on my team radioed back to mission control, "Houston, request permission to 'free James Brown.'"

The request was flatly ignored. Boo to Houston for not playing along. >_<

Their lives were similar, music led to drugs and alcohol and then they had one last media bang before they died. (Rick James and Chapelle Show, James Brown and his news interview)
