Bronze

The shittier the league, the shittier the players. So if you get placed in bronze you won't be steam-rolled constantly by good players. The casuals will be matched-up with the casuals and likewise for the pros. It's actually a pretty cool system! It'd be perfect for you, Choard.
I use a shitty, basic Logitech mouse. Protip: Gaming mice are a huge marketing gimmick and don't actually make you better at video games.
I wouldn't mind trying that. What determines what league you are placed in?
Pro-er tip: Gaming mice make a huge difference. I saw drastic improvement when I switched from a Microsoft IntelliMouse to the DeathAdder. I admit that I was playing Quake and not SC, but my movements were much more precise. Since I'm not really doing much PC gaming these days, you can borrow my DA and pad. You might just find your cheese game improving.
Before you can start playing for real on the Battle.net 2.0 ladder you have to play 5 placement matches. Depending on how well you do on your placement matches determines which league you are placed.
I'm not sure exactly how the placement matches work. I think you get randomly selected against a Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat, and Diamond player. If you win all five you generally get placed in Platinum, if you win a bunch of games in the Platinum league you eventually move up to Diamond. You can, of course, intentionally lose all five of your placement matches and get put in Bronze.
Sometime in the future they are adding a "Pro" league that is invite only. It's analogous to Cal-I of Counter-Strike fame. Obviously only the best of the best (i.e. Koreans) will compose the league. How you get invited in to the league exactly is uncertain at this time though.

lol @ placement system. I know it's still beta, but so far the placement system is pretty broken. I disconnected after 1 minute on 2 of my placement matches, won the next 3, and got put in Silver. Then they proceeded to put me against 90% Diamond opponents. After a little bit (30 games?) the system promoted me to Platinum, skipping gold entirely. Then I was playing 100% Diamond opponents until the beta ended. Derp.
You know, it's hard to imagine, but this fucking game is coming out in 5 days.
I can still vividly remember beating the single-player campaign of Brood War back in 1998 and being upset by the cliff-hanger ending. I can finally get some sort of resolution and to be honest it's a bit surreal to think about it. Of course it's 12 years later and I'm a much more cynical person so who knows the single-player campaign could just be one giant roll-eye cliche.

I've heard very good things about this game, but I've always sucked at RTS's...I'm really not a huge fan of "whoever has higher APM wins"...
I beat people with more APM than me pretty often. Significantly higher? Probably not cause they'll have a better econ, army build than me. But you'd be surprised how many people get fucked by stuff like 4gate or baneling drops.
