Instead of writing a retort to all of vd's points I'm just going to be the mature one, call him a faggot and move on.

Oh and normal phones don't have a keyboard that's the main appeal of them DERRRRP.

Fuck I can't stop myself.

hope this is sarcasm, btw if you don't write a retort, you're the loser in the argument, saying that you have retorts and not posting them = i basically assume you're lying
mexican ninja wrote:Oh and normal phones don't have a keyboard that's the main appeal of them DERRRRP.
i repeat

where would you actually USE this keyboard? Anytime i need to talk to someone through AIM or email i use my computer or my friend's computer or the college computers.

and if you're talking about just texting while you're driving, i can type pretty damn fast on my normal phone keypad, and if you want to blow 200+ dollars on a phone to have a keyboard just for typing texts (and said keyboards are usually super fucking small anyways), then wow...

On a completely different note...

My laptop stopped charging today. At first it would flicker into 'charging' status for a second or two at a time, but now it's just refusing to charge at all. What really sucks is that I'm going out of town tomorrow, so I won't be able to get this sorted out until I'm back.

On the plus side, it's still under warranty, so Circuit City has to either fix it, or give me a new one. I'm hoping for the later.

That's basically the reason why Mike and I got the new laptop....only it was because the only way that Mike's old laptop would work was if it was plugged in, because the battery was fucked up or something. And I hated having to plug it in everywhere....also, after a while of it being stupid, it decided that it wouldn't work if the CD drive was in it....so we basically took everything that was in it out...and finally it worked, but it was just worthless and a piece of crap.

That is probably not the case for your laptop...but I just wanted you to know that I have been in the same situation sorta :-P

I had something similar happen to my old laptop. I'm guessing this might be the same problem, and if it is, the little jack that your AC adapter plugs into on the laptop is breaking. They're basically held on to the motherboard by a small copper? slab, not much bigger than this ==
Good thing it's under warranty, otherwise you'd have to open up the laptop and try to solder the piece back into place. When I finally found out what the problem with mine was, it was basically beyond repair, so I ended up buying a new laptop. So make good use of that warranty, and make sure you back up anything you want before you take it to the store because sometimes they like to wipe your hard drive and be like oops lol

There used to be laptops with software controlled charging circuits. They got rid of those with Li-Ion because of the safety issues. I've been told some laptops won't enable the charger to begin with unless directed to do so by software, but such behavior as you describe wouldn't occur suddenly in a situation like that; it would show up when you change OSes, for example.

It's possible that the charger is broken and is incorrectly detecting the state of the battery as being fully charged or damaged. It's also possible that the battery is actually damaged. There have been lots of battery recalls recently due to internal shorting issues. Such a failure would usually cause a charger to shut down immediately, even if it doesn't result in "venting with flame" (i.e. battery blowing up).

What city do you live in that seems to have computers every other step you take? And I can type so fast on my "fucking tiny" keypad that I have had random people in aiprport security give me props. I can type so fast that I found it faster to take notes on my SK than to actually write them out in all my classes. I used to do my assigments on my SK in class and then e-mail them to my teacher. They always thought it was the coolest thing ever, except for this one sub. He was a dick. But really I think I've already mentiond a couple of these things before which shows quite a few places where I would use the keyboard. Hell I'm typing this response (and about 99.9% of my indyddr poasts) on it right now. This is so worth $60 a month.

Debating this with you is like trying to talk to my grandma about why DVDs are better than VHS. She just doesn't get it. Some people (like me) really enjoy having all your resources in one simple little package, and are willing to look over issues like small screen (which actually isn't that small unless you have awful vision. Have you ever used a smartphone for more than 15 minutes?) and lack of mouse (but click wheels, track balls, and to a much lesser extent touch screen) make up for that.

And yes it was sarcasm, thanks for missing it. Its hardly mature to call someone a faggot and move on.

Well, as I said, it occasionally would detected it as charging for a second or two when it first started doing this, but now it won't detect it at all. Also, the battery monitor seems to be fine, as it's been showing the battery as steadily dropping in power.

Oh well, I'll find out after I'm back in town and can have it looked at.

Oh, and I've already placed an order for a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter so I can pull all my data off the drive before taking it in. It should arrive before I get back.

Um... modesto, California? Pretty much anywhere in california is going to have computers, including houses, schools, libraries, even some grocery stores around here have them.

Ok, and i rarely text and if i do i can go fast too, what's your point? I almost never take notes in class because I rarely actually need to honestly (i don't forget school shit easily), and if I do, i just bring;

-tape recorder
or
-laptop
mexican ninja wrote:I used to do my assigments on my SK in class and then e-mail them to my teacher. They always thought it was the coolest thing ever, except for this one sub. He was a dick.
Ok, around here, if you try and do an assignment in class while the teacher's lecturing (and not trying to be condescending, but i don't know what grade you're in), which is the entire class, since college classes (except labs and film classes for example) are nothing but lectures; you're forced to do all of your work out of class.
mexican ninja wrote:But really I think I've already mentiond a couple of these things before which shows quite a few places where I would use the keyboard. Hell I'm typing this response (and about 99.9% of my indyddr poasts) on it right now. This is so worth $60 a month.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT, 60 A MONTH? Wow, I was doing all of these on the assumption that you had just bought a sidekick for like 200 bucks and that was it, holy god damn. For 60 a month for internet service, that thing better be great in bed.
mexican ninja wrote:Debating this with you is like trying to talk to my grandma about why DVDs are better than VHS. She just doesn't get it. Really bad analogy. DVD & VHS both play video. DVD can hold data, but has to be formatted (usually) to hold either data or play back movies on a DVD player. VHS can only be played back with video, i.e. it can't be used as data storage on a computer (yeah i know there's probably some way but you know what I mean).

The only advantages DVD has over VHS then is;

-higher video quality
-more storage space
-ability to be data or video

that's it. Those are clear advantages, and you lose nothing in using DVD format, whatsoever, and it's cheaper at this point than a VHS.

If you could give me a phone like the iPhone or the Sidekick that was CHEAPER than an old phone, had better call reception, cost less per month to own, had a larger screen, larger buttons, and could be used in some way besides a phone that I would actually need (basically nothing), then i'd get it.

As it is, the Sidekick, iPhone, etc. cost a fuck-ton to buy and to pay month by month, every single advantage they have you can easily do on your computer right at home or someone else's computer, and it's just really not worth it to me.

Also note that having all of your stuff in one package screws you up the ass hard if you lose it; if i lose my phone, i still have internet access, my email, my files, etc. If I lose my laptop, I still have my phone to call people and text people. If I lose my DVD player, I still have the laptop etc.

You lose that 200-300 dollar sidekick, you lose your internet access, your phone, your ability to contact people outside of face to face contact, your files, your music, your favorites on your internet, EVERYTHING.

Considering some of the message boards i've been on, that's pretty classy compared to most of the stuff they pull, so i wasn't sure.

lol @ cali on and indy board

lol @ me for not having SUPER MEMORY or a laptop.

I kinda forgot the rest of you post but lol @ flipping out over 60 a month. I dunno how they do things in hippie town but most people I know pay at least 60 a month for their phone and don't have email, aim, internet, or unliminted texting. I get all that and juuuust enough minutes. Seems extremely reasonable to me.

Ohohohoh

lol @ completly missing the point of the DVD vs VHS thing. I was insulting you and comparing you to an old person who doesn't like to adopt to new things.
