I don't find it terribly offensive, and the way I see it, a great number of people on this board have no qualms ridiculing my beliefs, so it's all good.

On that note, I'm gonna go draw cartoons of muhammed.

<grins> Yeah, but there are several situations in which I believe that doing unto others as they do unto you is inappropriate. I don't tell random forum members what their sexual preferences are, nor do I threaten them, etc., etc., regardless of whether they do these things to me.

There are plenty of things that I feel people should be openminded enough not to be discomfited by, but that doesn't change the fact that they frequently aren't. In particular, when people feel the need to advertise their passion about the subject, as many do with sexuality and religion, they can't afford to let themselves be openminded.

And thus I don't make jokes about two heterosexual men being lovers (despite the fact that people frequently make those jokes about me and my few female friends) for a general audience. Nor do I retell jokes suggesting that famous religious figures were into BDSM unless I feel confident that I'm in the company of people who won't be seriously disturbed.

I don't know. Maybe I only have this attitude because I grew up in a very fundamentalist community, where the Christians had all the agnostics/atheists/others completely... whipped.

I'm just really not a huge fan of PC society...having to censor every little thing you say, just on the off chance that someone might be 'offended.'
I've always been a minority in terms of religious beliefs, or my views on spirituality in general, so I've gotten used to people putting me down and trying to limit me in what I can and can't say or believe. Now, I think if I can get used it, and bite my tounge and go about with my life when some holy roller shits on my beliefs, then just about anyone can. It's not terribly fair that only a few social groups are excempt from ridicule or question...that goes for religion, race, etc etc.

I'm typically respectful of others beliefs, so long as they don't give me shit about my own. But, if you're not confident enough in your own beliefs to be able to laugh at them, then I see a problem. Hell, the norse gods, and pagan beliefs in general have been bastardized in movies, comics, games, etc etc for years now. Why should Jesus be excempt? There are still people all around the world that place their faith in the old gods.

Like I said, they SHOULD be openminded... but they're not. As an elitist bastard, I learned a long time ago that trying to hold the rest of society to the standards that I have for myself is a bad idea.

You're absolutely right that it's not fair that most people dispense/demand niceness on the basis of membership in a protected group, rather than on the basis of generally applicable principles. But we still have the dubious privilege of living in a world shaped by that attitude and that sense of entitlement, and we have to deal pragmatically.

This isn't to say that there's something wrong with jokes or remarks that make people uncomfortable, just that they have negative consequences.

I just got a new job. Working at a daycare.

So...... I haven't decided yet if I want kids someday or not. But I have made up my mind about one thing... I DON'T WANT TWENTY OF THEM.

ROTFL. Oh, you poor critter... I wouldn't deal with that many kids for the world. <<<hugs>>>

I live next door to a daycare nowadays, and it's always interesting to look over there and see what's going on. I've been surprised, though - the kids are fairly well-behaved, it's the parents that are jerks.

Oooooh yes. Parents can be crappy. You can always tell the ones that are so busy digesting you that they're too involved to really hold a good conversation, though. XD I even had a mom today tell me to not help her daughter with her homework, because they'd do it at home together.

Now, tell me... If you were sending you kid to daycare, and their teacher was willing to help them with their homework so that they could have the evening free to spend family time with their parents and siblings...wouldn't you want them to do that? Hell...I'd be happy if someone just helped my kid with their homework. o_o

Ah, well.

Most of the kids are pretty cool. Rambunctious as hell, but...they're kids, and they should be allowed to be that way as long as they're allowed to be. The little girls all seem to love me, which is pretty nice. I made the mistake (*cough*) of befriending a lonely-looking little girl, and she wouldn't stop following me around. XD Ahhh..... n_x

After going to school myself from 8:00-1:00 (Cakes, Fillings, and Icings!), I was at the daycare from 1:30-6:00.

And...I get to go back and do it all again, just like that, tomorrow! I have a different class, but it'll be the same kids later. n________-

If I were sending my kid to daycare? I can't imagine doing that, but then, I can't imagine having a kid, so... I'll take your word for it.

How many of you are there for that many kids?

Good luck Mosh. It's a hard but rewarding job (mentally if not financially

). I worked part time at a daycare center for a few months while my daughter went there. It was a lot of fun, but I definitely couldn't have done it for any longer than I did.

just a word of advice: never give the kids sugar heavy drinks like kool-aid. BAD things happen. I did this the last day I was a counsler at the YMCA and the kids become little devils and are INSANE for the next 30 minutes

And see, that's what they do at the daycare! I mean, some of 'em are little devils anyway, but when it came to snack time, we had animal crackers (which are okay) and this really sugar syrup-heavy drink! I could hardly drink the stuff myself!

So...yeh. o_O

Hopefully it will get more rewarding as time goes on. This'll be my second day, so maybe when they figure out I'm sticking around, they'll calm down.

But for now, all I can pray is that the teachers give them homework to do. Lots...and lots...of homework. =D
