<grins> Yeah, but there are several situations in which I believe that doing unto others as they do unto you is inappropriate. I don't tell random forum members what their sexual preferences are, nor do I threaten them, etc., etc., regardless of whether they do these things to me.
There are plenty of things that I feel people should be openminded enough not to be discomfited by, but that doesn't change the fact that they frequently aren't. In particular, when people feel the need to advertise their passion about the subject, as many do with sexuality and religion, they can't afford to let themselves be openminded.
And thus I don't make jokes about two heterosexual men being lovers (despite the fact that people frequently make those jokes about me and my few female friends) for a general audience. Nor do I retell jokes suggesting that famous religious figures were into BDSM unless I feel confident that I'm in the company of people who won't be seriously disturbed.
I don't know. Maybe I only have this attitude because I grew up in a very fundamentalist community, where the Christians had all the agnostics/atheists/others completely... whipped.
