I'm just saying I play fun games and I didn't spend $500+ on a video card. I am an old man and I think graphics are overrated.

I don't "get it," I'll admit. Some people will spend thousands of dollars on art or actually pay money for porno and that's cool, it is after all their money. I can't say I haven't blown money on something that's arguably retarded (Drummania Cabinet, Riot's old computer, etc.). Riot I hope you enjoy your video card see yuh

Whoa whoa whoa I just said that for Chad the difference between a $400 and a $500 card is going to be negligible since he's not a stickler for graphics. I'm sure if you're plotting polys in Maya or some shit then you'll notice a difference but if you're playing some generic FPS or Diablo 3 then you might as well go mid-range and save yourself some precious Jew gold. IMO spending an extra hypothetical $100 for like 5% increase in performance isn't worth it hence, diminishing returns.

If Riot wants to blow 5 hundo on a computer component and then talk about it on the internet then that is par for the course. He's been doing that shit for years and there seems to be an obligatory Riot brag post every Christmas swag thread that we have each year.

If it was 5% better I wouldn't get it. It's more like 20-50% in most cases, and the drivers haven't even matured. Plus it runs cooler and uses way less energy. I play games for fun too but part of that fun for me on some games is seeing everything looking really preeeeeetty.

oh I wasn't even referring to you, I was referring to pokebis. But riot's right, it's way more than 5 percent. it's upwards of 30 most of the time, and he's right, the driver series for this core is brand new, it's pretty usual for nvidias drivers to up fps 5% every release after this (they'll even say in the release notes "5% performance increase in xxx")

not to mention just 5 or 10 or 20 percent is all you need most of the time, the difference between 35 fps and 45fps is huge, in supplanting the way your eye interpolates motion and stitches frames together. When I bought bf3 when it came out, I'm an immersion nut and demanded that all settings be on the highest possible. (because, I'm not exaggerating, there are constant moments while playing this game on a good monitor where you have to stop and stare at it thinking...is this a picture? It's amazing what a good ambient occlusion and global illumination algorithm will do to the way we perceive light). My older card could barely do it and maintain 35fps, so I spent 320 on a new card and now it's rock solid at a constant 50+, and it does not drop to perceivable strobing. Worth it? For me, yes, but I also rely on the card for realtime compositing and grading, so I kind of have an excuse there

Everything came yesterday but graphics card comes today. Parts are just hanging out in boxes til maybe friday or saturday when Kevin comes over to help. I gotta get my storage hd out of my current pc... If I format and install windows on new puter is that going to mess up if my key is activated on current pc? Do I have to reformat that one first? Bring your windows key when you come so we can get your stuff set up if you want.

I'm 99% sure you can install Windows 7 on as many desktops as you want and it won't fuck anything up. I think the worst thing that will happen is that you can't get Windows Updates on the "new" desktop until you activate your copy of Windows which you can easily spoof; I think it's just a registry hack.

Riot, if you could actually install Windows on the computer I am buying then that would be great since I'd have to find a disc. If you don't want to use your key I can find one for you.

well I have a cd and key you just need to get your own key and you can use my cd. my plan is to just reformat my current pc leave it blank until you get me the cd key and I can format it when you're here. Might try to start build tonight we'll see......!
