Q&A about sports and video games

it is still a competitive sport. They're there to get the crowd in but there is an art and form to cheer leading. Just like dancing, there is form and particular movements specific to that sport. they can and are judged, just not all the time. just like dancing...just because you can get sloshed at a bar and dance doesn't mean it isn't a sport still, it can be made competitive....it is just stupid.

This game easily could have sold enough, seeing all the anticipation there was for it.

I'm overweight and unattractive. You can have your jollies from that if you want. I can't play football or baseball or hockey or anything like that. But THOSE. ARE. SPORTS.

Cheerleading? No. You know what I do in the stands? I cheer. You know what they do down on the floor? They cheer. They're glorified slutty fans in short skirts.

They're still cheering for the REAL sport. Therefore, I can't really have respect for them.

Now if we're talking about the travelling cheer teams that aren't actually cheering for some lame high school sport? I'm willing to consider that a sport. That's a different animal than high school whores jumping around to see if their boobs jiggle more than their teammates'. u_u

You'd be surprised. Cheerleading in college is hard, and takes an extreme amount of physical effort. Most cheerleaders are almost insanely in shape, and I don't mean they have nice bodies. Throwing up dinner won't help you do backflips, nor will it get you the stamina necessary for moves that require extreme coordination. And for guy cheerleaders... damn. Any guy cheerleader in the state is stronger than any guy on this mesage board.

Like I said, at a higher or competative level, I respect cheerleading as a sport. Because it takes a lot of discipline to condition and stay in shape, just as it does to play any sport.

I guess what I'm mainly focussed on is high school cheerleading. What a waste of time. n_n

As for golf... It may be tame, but in my opinion, it's still very much a sport. Just because they don't go out and get bloody and beaten up doesn't mean anything. They practice all the time, and they've become conditioned and accurate in what they do. It's just more clean cut.

I'd say golf is somewhere in the border line between sport, and a game of skill. I don't think it requires any athletic ability, however, it does require skill that can only be attained from practice and knowledge of the game.

As for cheerleading, college level or specialized cheer squads can easily be a sport...but your average high school cheerleader? Not really. This varies quite a bit...I've seen some decent cheer routines from high school students, but they're generally the exception, not the rule. So...it may or may not be, it just depends on the situation. Perhaps a better question would be, is that cheerleader there for her athletic ability, or for the eye candy?

LIKE OMG IMO!!! Any "sport" in which you can be pretty much plastered, overweight, and eating at the same time, and still be good at it, is not a sport it's a game.

This goes for golf, bowling, pool, darts, poker, sometimes baseball, and DDR is on the bubble.

ok real legitimate sport question here
and don't make fun of me because i'm sheltered when it comes to such things

what's a down in football? like, i was watching it with my straight friends the other day and they were trying to explain but didn't do a very good job
like if you get 5 downs the other teams gets points or something
and then like
you have to go ten yards per down
so if you go 50 yards the other team gets points?
I'm really confused because that doesn't make sense.

Ok first there are 4 downs. The object is to get past the first down marker which when a first down is made, by rules is placed 10 yards away from where the 1st down was obtained.

A down is dependent upon which affiliation of football you're watching. Most general rule is if a knee touches the ground or you go out of bounds you're down.

There's also the line of scrimmage. This is where the plays are started. If you watch football you'll see a line through the two teams and then a line further down. The one separating the teams is the line of scrimage, the other is the first down line. Simplest way to put, they have 4 downs to get from the line they're at to the line further away. So long as they cross that line in 4 downs, they get a first down.
