Elaborate on the tone generator. What distinguishes it from the signal generator with a speaker hooked up to it? Are its controls more user-friendly or more application-specific?

No offense intended, but I'm still more jealous of MonMotha's setup, mainly because I've tried to kludge most of the stuff he has using cheap PICs and badly-wired breadboards with only mixed success. (Yay, it's a function generator that can only go up to 10 kHz and can only produce sine or square waveforms.) Of course, his tendency towards melodrama helps too... :P

the signal generator generates various NTSC test patterns to work with monitors. the tone generator can select betwen various hz values and outputs them preamped L R stereo...tone generator is also handy as an analog clk

oh yeah, i also got a power source that can power an entire wall of head units for cars at 12V..something like 20 or 30A

I also got a variable from 10-25V and 5-10A

Ah, okay, I'm used to a more general sort of signal generator. I guess that actually makes the tone generator *less* application-specific in some sense.

yeah it's pretty cool you can make it do sweeps or you can make it stay at one hz value pulsing and goes from 90hz to 15000hz...it's supposed to be used to test speakers output but it's just an unpowered sine wave generator so hey, i'll use it!

Yea for PCs running off batteries!!!

Thanks for revealing that you have a decent UPS. Next time this happens I'll abduct it so I can use it to power the Nuclear Physics Lab. :P

Oh, and for more randomness:

I'm smiling because they haven't found the bodies yet. Why are YOU smiling?

You know sometimes, when I drink a coke, I feel happy, but at other times, I just wanna shoot someone in the head. Does that make me crazy? :)

No, no, you've got cause and effect reversed again. The fact that you're crazy makes you feel like that...

Since this is a random thoughts thread anyway, I'll take the opportunity to ask: what's the vibrating Ho quote from? I've been lurking for quite a while, but I don't recall seeing the original, and every time I see it I get just a bit more curious.

Very nice.

Though the highlighting gives the word "vibrating" an unnatural emphasis.
