I just love Windows. Especially when even after I clear all registry values of my old HP scanner and stop and restart my WIA and clear all TWAIN/.logs/etc. and install new Epson drivers, it still won't detect my scanner portion of my new Epson. It prints fine, the scanner just doesn't communicate with my computer.
Best part of it? I plugged it into my folks' iMac(OSX panther), and after I installed scan driver, it works perfectly on theirs.

start->run->"cmd"->ok
"format c:", hit enter
Confirm that you want to destroy all data on the computer.
Install Linux.
(Disclaimer: Don't actually do that unless you really do want to destroy all data on the computer)
A normality test: +++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Define 'broke.' Most PC errors are pretty easily fixed, or caused by something that can be elimited altogether (spyware, P2P garbage, windows etc.) Now, hardware issues aren't really my bag...beyond putting in a new card and installing the drivers, I'm pretty much at a loss.

Yeah, apparently what happened is her dad was updating some spyware scan software(not sure what brand) and it froze and won't reboot. I haven't had a chance to look at it so I'm not sure if it's just a simple matter of force restarting it and changing some conflicting files around or what.
