In general, responsible use of DDT *is* good for humans. The birds, however, tend to have their own opinions, especially regarding irresponsible use...

Well, I didn't recommend drinking the stuff, but in many areas (especially developing nations), the benefits outweigh the risks in many cases. Malaria is a big deal and sickens/kills millions. Now, mosquito resistance is a problem, but that'll happen with just about any insecticide applied en masse. Note the indoor application methods employed in some african countries to combat this.

DDT is one of many chemicals that you should likely avoid if possible, but can be very useful and reasonably safe if used in moderation when the situation so calls.

Makes sense. DDT/insecticide on buildings = good. DDT/insecticide on food = bad
