long story short, a small area/passage right above your pelvic area. inguinal hernia is when the muscular wall tears in that area, below your belly button, epigastric hernia is when the muscle layer tears up higher, above your belly button

Inguinal canal houses the spermatic cord (vas deferens, arteries, nerves, etc.). Direct and indirect hernias can both happen in this area as it tends to be pretty vulnerable compared to the other areas of the core. It's the most common male hernia and tends to happen bilaterally (both sides demonstrate protrusion) either at once or eventually. Genetic, structural abnormalities and excessive pressure differences can all combine and "pop." It's why hernias can be more common in athletes but you can get them just from pooping too hard.
