Re: Baron of the Bemani Bordello: July 23rd is a gogogogo
I am all for weird scoring methods and algorithms. Money score might be a little hard to keep track off because I know Drummania has ridiculously huge money scores that are harder to remember than just a simple 3-digit number. We should have a laptop ready with a spreadsheet for people to record their scores on it otherwise we'll have to have some jerk be a dedicated score keeper.
Here's how I see shit unfolding:
- People stumble in to Brian's place
- When we all get there we'll determine the song that will be played for each game
- For each song, we'll all agree on a difficulty
- For games without random (which I think is just KBM, maybe Pop'n) we'll do our little collective randomization thingy mentioned in the OP
- Everybody will play what they want in whatever order they want. For the sake of time I figure we'll have people playing games simultaneously.
- Once you've finished a song, you'll walk over to the laptop and enter in the number of perfects you got.
- Once everyone is done we'll tally up the points and declare a Baron of the Bemani Bordello.
- In the event of a tie we'll play Pac-Man to determine a winner.
Anyway, here are some makeshift rules for Veritas of Variety:
Games that will be played - Pump, Daytona, Flash Beats, Dragon Age I-II, Space Ace, Pac-Man, some Neo-Geo game, Blitz
Rules:
- Pump will be straight money score because Pump players love bad scoring methods
- Daytona will be fastest time trial on whichever course we agree on
- Flash Beats will be highest score on single player on some genre of music we agree on
- Dragon Age / Space Ace will be straight highest score
- Pac-Man is also highest score
- Blitz will be most touchdowns scored against the computer in one quarter
- The Neo-Geo game will just be straight money score on whatever game we play
It will be run with the same procedures as the Baron tournament! Yay fun times.

Minus the NES version.
Re: Baron of the Bemani Bordello: July 23rd is a gogogogo
I was thinking we could just have a sheet of paper on each machine for people to write down their scores...easy peasy. With event mode on, results screens should stay up indefinitely to give people a chance to record their scores.
In the event of a tie, let's let the standings in the Funspot scoring determine the winner, ok? Pac-Man is awfully arbitrary to break a tie for Baron of the *Bemani* Bordello.
For Veritas, I would propose the following:

For Veritas, I would propose the following:
- Merk sucks because he doesn't understand Pump scoring and is incapable of creating proper phpBB lists.
- Daytona should be time lap mode--probably for beginner course. We can do either best overall race or best lap.
- Flash Beats will be for a single song (one player games can last up to 3 songs if you're good enough)
- We should pick one of the three laser games. Doing all 3 will probably weigh the overall results too much in favor of whoever is ok/good at laser games (probably me). We should also probably pick either DL2 or SA because they are the same game every time (Dragon's Lair 1 is somewhat random as far as scene selection goes).
- Pac-Man is bliss
- Blitz is war
- How about for Neo-Geo we do Bust-a-Move, fastest time to complete level 1.

Re: Baron of the Bemani Bordello: July 23rd is a gogogogo
As long as we have some sort of spreadsheet and a laptop I'll be happy. I'll be fucked if I'm going to sort through papers trying to figure out who had the best score on each game.
Re: Baron of the Bemani Bordello: July 23rd is a gogogogo
I just mean that we'd have people write it down for each game and then we can transfer all the data to a spreadsheet at the end. I definitely intend to let a computer calculate/sort the scores. It's just easier to keep a piece of paper on each game rather than having people try to find a laptop to enter scores--especially if multiple need to enter a score all at once.

Some additional questions I wanted to run by Merk:
- Do you want to go just straight Perfect count, ignoring any non-combos?
- For DDR, I will most likely have SuperNOVA2 installed. I assume Marvelous+Perfect will be ok?
- Do you intend for people to be able to replay a song or is it just one shot and you're done? At the Funspot tournament, people are allowed to play a game as many times as they wish within the allotted time. We're looking at 14 games, roughly 3 minutes each. That's 42 minutes. Obviously we'll need some transition time, but we could just set a time limit of 90 minutes and people should be able to comfortably finish and still give people time to retry games they think they can improve.

1. We'll go with straight perfect count, anything else does not count towards your final score.Ho wrote:Some additional questions I wanted to run by Merk:
EDIT: I just re-read the OP. I guess you did specify that you wanted people just to play once. That's fine, but what do you think of the time limit idea? I'll let you make the final decision since this is kind of your baby.

2. Marvs + Perfects works just fine
3. In the interest of time and to prevent cock-blocking I'd like for people to just have one shot

Along these lines, I assume fails also don't matter? Depending on what comes up, there's a good chance I'll be posting some non-combo flails.Merk wrote:1. We'll go with straight perfect count, anything else does not count towards your final score.

All hail Lord Merkenstein! Even though he thinks that 2 Live Crew is a electronic group and is forever cursed to choke when playing Beatmania competitively, we salute him for becoming the first ever Baron of the Bemani Bordello! His Sumo Session powers are truly epic.

In case anyone was wondering about results, this is (I think) how things broke down:
Beet (Alien World [7]):
Amp
John-Michael
Merk
Pop'n (Oi Punk [Hyper]):
Amp
Ho and John-Michael (tie)
Merk
DMX (The Locomotion [Wild]):
Ho
Tim
Merk
DDR (i feel... [H]:
Amp
Merk
John-Michael
GF (I'm gonna get you! [ADV]):
Merk
Ho
John-Michael
DM (Rebirth [ADV]):
Merk
Ho
John-Michael
KBM (KlungKlung 1655 [Light+]):
Merk
Ho
Amp
I know I am completely off on 2nd/3rd on some of these but I'm pretty sure I got each game winner correct. In fact, I definitely know I'm off because the final scores went something like this:
Merk - 21
Ho - 20
Amp - 20
John-Michael - 16
Tim - 14
But yeah, the event was fun and there's a lot of replayability to it should we ever decide to do this again. I like how close the scores were and with a completely different set of songs we could easily get a completely different outcome. Plus it took less than an hour to start and finish.

So should we do this again sometime, yes?
