Best move I made last week:
"Benched Tom Brady, who had the lowest QB score on the team with 15.36 points."

Benching Tom Brady is basically this .gif:

Hell yeah Russell "The Hustle" Wilson got you 16 points!

I like the little game recaps that Yahoo! does now, they add some nice flavor text to what was previously a pretty sterile experience.

There are a lot of God damn rules to football and it amazes me that the referees can keep track of all of this obscure shit.

Did you know it's possible to score a single point in football for something other than a kicked extra point after a touchdown? I sure as fuck did not.

Yes. I only found that out during that game, though.

My Ducks gonna get a natty this year.

Ducks are honestly the most entertaining team in College footie because of their sheer balls and ability to steamroll everyone. It's crazy that every week they have giant 20+ point spreads and they cover every. fucking. week.

Score a touchdown? Up by double digits? Fuck it just go for the 2-point conversion anyway.

They'll lose to Alabama though unfortunately, Oregon plays a cake schedule and as soon as they play a legit defense they'll crumble just like Notre Dame did last year.

Stanford and UCLA aren't cake. Don't be an SEC homer. Washington finally has a solid team again this year and we dismantled them. We have an SEC-size line this year. Oregon handed Tennessee their biggest loss in decades while holding them to two touchdowns; a Tennessee team that took Georgia to OT in an extremely close game. Alabama and Oregon are easily the two best teams in the nation right now. Notre Dame had the #2 spot with multiple close call wins and an absolute reaming in the natty.

Oregon isn't a sure win but neither is Bama. Roll Ducks.

I don't know if it was the best move I made as far as points are concerned, but it was definitely the most satisfying.

Brady has no one to throw to this year so it was a good move. Brady is going to be bad until he can get one of his star receivers back but unfortunately no one seems to know when Rob Gronkowski is going to be back: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf ... y/2972709/

Wilson can get rushing yards which are worth more QB fantasy points so I would ride Wilson out until it's confirmed Brady will have someone to throw to or I'd make a judgment call each week and compare the defenses that they'll be up against. I'd take Brady against a mediocre defense over Wilson against a good defense, you know what I'm saying?

That's too complicated and more effort than I want to put into this. I was going with "Tom Brady under-performed every week I had him in. Also, he is a douchehat and it made me feel good to bench him."

What happened with that dude faceplanting in that Cowboys/Redskins clip you posted above? It looks like a helmet-to-helmet hit and he got the worse end of it.

No argument here that Oregon and Bama are the best right now and would make for the most interesting National Championship game since they are such different teams. Notre Dame last year was one overtime shanked field goal away from playing in some shitty Hungry Howie's Pizza Bowl but NOPE I guess being the only unbeaten team gives you a bid to the National Championship game. Not gonna lie I'm excited that the BCS system is going away and that there will be a legit playoffs next year.

My heart wants Oregon to win but I don't see it happening. We shall see! SDP if there is a Oregon/Bama National Championship game I'd like to hang out with you and watch it while eating pizza.

You know would be awesome? A Baylor / Oregon game. God damn that'd be a lot of points!

Yeah it's a helmet-to-helmet that completely blindsided the Redskin player that was completely unflagged (which would have negated the long return) and from what I've read so far was also not fined. More often than not a player will get fined or (rarely) suspended for an egregious injury upon another player even if it did not draw a penalty. This hit not being fined is a bit ironic considering that the NFL is trying to discredit that documentary that just came out regarding the brain damage that ex-NFL players experience later in life and the NFL's complete disregard for them.

The critical thing about the modern head-protection rules in the NFL is that what matters is not the outcome (it's not against the rules to "cause a concussion") but the means. They're trying to walk a fairly thin line between making the game safer, especially in terms of head/neck injuries (with a fair degree of success, though perhaps not as much as one might like), while still trying to keep the general nature of the game (which is inherently physical and bordering on violent) unchanged.

Now, I don't know much about the specifics of that hit, but it's possible that it was "legal" per the rules. As long as you don't lead with the helmet to the neck or head of the opposing player, it's generally a "legal hit". It's always somewhat of a judgement call, and they're more lax on hits on open field ball carriers than "defenseless receivers" (someone who just caught the ball and has not yet had time to get their bearings and start running), the quarterback, or someone who's just blocking an otherwise uninvolved player like this guy. It's also not unheard of for the league to fine someone even if a penalty was not assessed in the game, based on video evidence. The refs have a limited amount of time/material to get it right, and you can't generally challenge the lack of a call of this nature. The league reserves the right to review the video and assess fines after the fact, though they usually reserve fines in general for more egregious events.

What may be going on here is something that was "plausibly accidental" even if against the rules: in theory, the refs should have assessed a personal foul penalty (even if accidental, the action itself would still merit the in-game penalty, similar to a facemask infraction), but the league would not generally fine in such a case (since it's deemed accidental). The lack of the former doesn't really play into the logic of the latter decision and just comes down to bad luck for the Redskins to not get the in-game call.

FWIW, the league has generally acknowledged that the game is dangerous and is taking efforts to make it safer. The teams do a lot of this, too. The Colts apparently now have neuro-trauma specialists on the sideline during their games, and they basically give them authority to pull someone out of the game if they think there's a medical hazard. There's been a lot of research done on helmet design over the past decade or so, and the league has gotten pretty aggressive with policies limiting blows to the head and is already starting to anger some spectators with how "calm" they're making the game (I think they're going down the right path). To some degree, the game is "inherently dangerous", and the players are made aware of this, but anything that can be added to the rules to prevent brain/head/neck injuries without totally gutting the game is probably a good thing, and that's what they're doing.

I am performing abysmally in this league and it honestly doesn't bother me. Especially in a league where EVERYBODY makes it to playoffs.

I beat Merk. That's all that matters, right?
