Guilt is an awful sort of thing that punishes good people and ignores the bad.

I went from 260 to 259 Facebook friends today and I am trying my damnedest to figure out who left me!
Was it anyone on here by chance?

I get a new post every 2 or 3 days from someone on G+. I guess it's just too hard to get people to pack up and move. Ah well.
Re: [Grubb's] Random Thoughts of the Day
The only way G+ will ever work is if Facebook it just shut down. People get too into their routines and don't want change, and a social network is only as good as the people on it. Kind of like World of Warcraft... other MMOs can't beat it because it's got too many users and too much content from 10 years of development, and new games don't have a chance to match expectations or encourage people to deviate without returning to the safety of familiarity a few months later.

I'd argue that there can exist multiple social networks. It doesn't need to be a zero-sum game necessarily. Other MMOs still exist and manage to do OK with WoW present.Riot wrote:The only way G+ will ever work is if Facebook it just shut down. It's a lot like AIM for me. I hate AIM, but the vast majority of my contacts are there, so I use it. Fortunately, Trillian saves me from having to use the actual AIM client.
In the case of G+ vs. Facebook, G+ has shown me no clear advantage over Facebook in terms of functionality. As far as the few times I've used it have been concerned, it is essentially a Facebook clone. Some of the operations are different, but it doesn't provide anything markedly different better for my usage patterns. Couple that with the fact that basically everyone I actually want to have contact with is already on Facebook and a single digit percentage of those people are on G+, and I really have no reason to put forth any effort to make a switch.
I think G+ is just too late to the game. If it had come out at the same time as Facebook...or even within a year or of Facebook really taking off and becoming mainstream, then it could be evaluated fairly. As it stands, it would take Google finding some kind of "killer app"-type functionality just to get anyone's attention against Facebook's established user base. And even then, I think it would be a very uphill battle.

Less buggy and less prone to fucking your privacy. I miss the old days of Facebook when it wasn't trying to be like Twitter.

I signed up for it when Purdue sign-ups for were opened up and deleted it a few months or so later. It was right after they added a feature so that you'd automatically see in your feed when one of your friends changed something in their profile. It suddenly occurred to me how invasive and pervasive (pervasively invasive?) they were planning on making it. It ends up that I was more right than I thought I'd be.Fluffyumpkins wrote:A+. Rereading all that, it sounds somewhat quaint now.
