Re: Current events
I didn't read the whole article, but I think got the gist. The most shocking thing to me is that the firmware was most recently updated in 2002. Whenever I see those machines, they always look like they're straight out of the 80s...maybe the 90s if I squint really hard.

Re: Current events
Their elegance is in their simplicity!
I didn't see any video poker at Indiana Grand, but they could have just been buried in the sea of slot machines. I like video poker. I don't know the strategy for it or anything but if all the table games are full I'll gladly sit down at a video poker machine and click buttons.

Re: Current events
There was video poker at the bar. I think there might have been a section of it somewhere out on the floor as well.

Re: Current events
Man, if those two dudes who figured out how to exploit video poker were smart about it they could have milked that exploit for years and probably not have gotten caught if they went to a different casino every 6 months or so and only went out with a single jackpot instead of the multiple jackpots per trip. The bug went undetected for years and probably would have continued had these guys not been so obvious about it.
It's still pretty bo that they did jailtime for something that a gaming regulatory body missed. I mean really the guys weren't doing anything that was outside of the confines of the machine.

Re: Current events
I read the first few paragraphs and then skimmed the rest. I thought I saw that they got to keep the money. But they did jail time?
And yeah...they were dumb about it. Especially in Vegas, the guy could have just gone from one casino to the next and it would have taken a long time for them to pick up the patter--if they did at all.
I know several groups of casinos on the strip are owned by a smaller number of parent companies. I don't know if they trade their security info and might have noticed this guy showing up a lot. But there are so many casinos out there that he easily could have come up with a circuit and gone undetected...unless only a small number of these casinos have that particular machine.
I love these stories of people who are so smart and yet so dumb.

Re: Current events
Press Your Luck guy was awesome and I'm glad CBS begrudgingly paid him. It's a damn shame that the guy was kind of a scum bag though and didn't really learn from his windfall - you can tell that the dude's wife/live-in girlfriend was just as trashy and scummy as him. You gobba take half your winnings and invest it and THEN use the rest on your stupid overpriced $50,000 pick-up truck or whatever it is trashy people buy these days.
Anyway, I guess RedBull got dinged on a class action lawsuit and now virtually anyone can claim a $10 check or a 4-pack of RedBull as long as you put in a claim on-line before the $13 million settlement limit is reached. I threw my address in there for the hell of it and now you can too - http://consumerist.com/2014/10/09/flood ... laim-site/

Re: Current events
The great thing about not voting is that you can't be held culpable for any of the dumb shit an elected official does! Some may say you lose the right to bitch if you don't vote but whatever at least I didn't play party to genocide and the denigration of the poor!
