I've never really been a blink fan, I was just going with the green day thing. I used to listen to green day all the time when I was younger. It just pisses me off when an artist busts their ass to get successful, and someone comes along screaming 'Sell out sell out!', because the play for bigger audiences and sell more albums, and *gasp!* get airtime on the radio.

They completely changed their music style just to conform to whats been big on the radio. Have you seen their latest videos? Green Day is trash. He can now sip pimp juice with Nelley right thurr with Chingy.

Greenday is nothing like most of the shit I hear on the radio around here. The lyrics are more inspired, that's one of the only differences. So what, they're not singing about dookie and masterbation anymore! Artists change their music approach all the time. Look at NIN for example: Every single one of the albums is different. Musicians do it all the time. I write music, and I've only been doing it for like, 2 years or so, and mine has changed as well, just in that short period of time. If you write the same music all the time, it turns into uninspired bullshit, and you get tired of it. You have to mix things up a little, you have to changed every now and then to keep things fresh.
Furthermore, the musical style greenday uses now, is almost identical to the style they used back in the day. I grew up playing Greenday on my guitar, it's no different. Just power chords, and occasionally a simple guitar riff here and there.
So, now becuase they sing about the state of the american public instead of dookie and masterbation, they're 'sell outs?'
Almost any band that's been around a decent amount of time WILL change. It happens, and I explained why, from the perspective of a song writer. It's a necessary thing.

one time me and Fluffy (Chad) were in the computer lab at my dorm and this dumb bitch was having a conversation with her friends about how you can totally tell someone's intelligence by the music they listen to, and that there's "intelligent" music and "unintelligent" music. I told her I was one of the most scholastically-accomplished people I know for my age (it's true) and I like to listen to Britney spears sometimes. Which is true.

Seriously, I can't stand that girl. What a bitch.

Anyway, back on topic...

"selling out" is just something that whiny goth/punk kids came up with. Who fucking cares? The whole goal of performing and going to concerts and selling albums is so you can eventually make it big and "sell out." The argument of "selling out" provides in itself an inherent fallacy in that the people who whien about "selling out" are really saying they want their bands to sell out a little bit, but there reaches a point when they sell out too much and they sort of become passé.

Old Green Day was closer to a punk sound than anything else, now it has become a watered down version of it's old glory. Look at it like this: Say Casey 180s in opinion. His posts become long winded and filled with semi reasonable points. He's now getting recognition for being an understaning person with a good head on his shoulders. But why would he ever take such a route? What's in it for him? In this case ratings. He's no longer the Casey with his own thoughts and opinions, but now he has AAs and AAAs. He's a heavy mode poster now.

Green Day, and even more so Blink 182 gave up on being musicians a long time ago. I'm willing to bet that their music goes something like this.

Sweet story behind this one. We were unpacking boxes of new merchandise to put on the shelves at work a few days ago, and we came across this CD. The box had been bashed around, and the CD on the end had a case cracked all to hell in about twelve different places. I talked to my manager, convinced her that the CD inside was probably a mess, too, and so she marked it out and gave it to me (sweeeet! =D).

So I've been enjoying it the last few days. Definitely a LOT more mellow than the music I normally listen to. So it's taking some getting used to, but it's nice to listen to while I'm working on something.

Great Job "fluffy" you made yourself look so smart with that and yet i still believe that you haven't listen to the CD. Also to judge a band by what they wear that must mean you listen to there music and like or dis-like them for that. And way to hate on people who are doing well be it the forum or the music world. Come on drop the whole "conformest" shit and lets just leave this thread for what it was made. Which was so people who don't listen to certain music can see what others think of it. and so people who listen to the same music to gather other peoples thoughts.

Look at any decent band that's been around for a long time. This thing happens. It infuriates me to see all these kids scream 'sell out' when a band finally busts their ass and becomes successful. It's not easy, you know. It takes A LOT of work to get that far, and as far as I'm concerned, they deserve it. One of the rules of being a musician, is that you have to be aware of the time and place, and have to be willing to adapt to it, or inevitably, YOU WILL GO UNDER. Look at what happened to the huge 80's metal scene when Nirvana came around. For all intensive purposes, it died. Some of them are still around, and a few are actually picking up steam again, but look how long it's been.
The point of the matter is, the public's opinion of music changes over time. It fluctuates rapidly. Career musicans alter their music frequently because of this, as well as artistic reasons as I explained before, which was obviously overlooked.
Go ahead, write 3 or 4 albums of the same style, and try to tell me you're not sick of it. You can only draw so much inspiration from the same thing before it gets old, and eventually, people will get sick of it too.

I think that most people fail to see that when bands make good music, people like it and buy their stuff. Every artist is trying to sell a lot of albums. The more albums sold, the more it lets them know that people like their music. Just because they are attracting a larger and more diverse fanbase, by no means shows that they are becoming "Sell-outs". When I think of a sell-out, I think of a group or artist that makes a lot of money, and then only goes out to produce another album when they need money again. And that's okay. As long as the music is good, I'll listen to it. All the people who boycott/don't buy albums just because a group is a "sell-out" remind me of PETA. And I hate PETA.
