Re: Video Thread - New Rule: No more vlogs.
Yes.
I really don't play new games, I'm still stuck playing the same shit that I've been playing since college (rhythm games and 3rd Strike). Nothing has really captured my attention as much as those games.

Nah I always tell people the opposite... trying to make money off games is reserved for the .001% that are top 8 in their respective game (and only if your respected game is League of Legends, Starcraft, and MAYBE Call of Duty/Counter-Strike/Street Fighter/Marvel).Fluffyumpkins wrote:That's sort of my thinking as well. I agree that there is a lot of natural talent needed for tournament play in both IIDX and fightin' games, but another barrier to entry is simply time needed for practice.
I think just about everyone here can agree that we're all worse (in general) at games now than when we were in college/high school. Even if skill hasn't deteriorated, the amount of learning has certainly been cut short. I don't know about you guys, but I doubt I'll ever play videogames in a tournament again, large or small (exceptions being non-serious joke tournaments that don't really count.)
Edit: I'm posting this before Riot lectures us on how people can play videogames and make a lot of money doing it even though it's incredibly uncommon.
I don't think Fanatiq's family is really that well off from all I've heard from him and seen him on his stream. He used his fighting game winnings earlier to pay for family stuff and to prove he could make money doing it when they were saying it was a waste of time. But he does play music at weddings for a job.
I actually think I'm probably still around the same level if not better than I was in high school. I play more games now than I did in high school because I did so much other stuff (band, job, 8 hours of school, living at home which means I ate family dinner on their schedule, etc.). Now I come home and play stuff/read the internet from like 4-7, and play as much as I want on weekends.
I've never ever played any game competitively for the money, but because I like the competition and I like beating people. Marvel is one of the only games I've ever played that I absolutely never ever get bored of. I ALWAYS want to play more matches because there is just so much to each fight and intricacies to each team composition. That and Counter-Strike back in the day, but after enough scrims it did get a bit grating. There were times Freshman and Sophomore year though that I would practice 3-6 hours a day with my team and I never got bored because I just love the competitive element; every match is different and a new chance to try things. I think a huge element though is that they are popular games... I like trying to be good at whatever's popular since it's high profile and the community hypes stuff up a lot.Merk wrote:I probably won't play in for serious tournaments anymore because I'm a fucking grown ass man who doesn't have time to spend 4+ hours a day practicing a video game so I can make $20 in a tournament that only happens once in a blue moon. That shit was cool when I had all the time in the world in high school / college but now games are just a hobby and another mere form of escapism from life.

If I embed enough I can slow down certain browsers.
For example your tablet might slow down or even crash if I embed too many videos.

I'm indifferent but it makes Potter happy and that makes me happy.

...false. When you embed an utuebz, it simply displays a bare frame until you play it. You can embed 30 youtubes, it would be the same as embedding 30 images (except actually 30 youtubes would take less bandwidth!).Pokebis wrote:If I embed enough I can slow down certain browsers.

They don't load any content or put a drag on your browser by decoding h.264 until you actually play one

Re: Video Thread - New Rule: No more vlogs.
If I embed a really long video it will make your graphics card overheat and melt your mobo.
DO NOT CLICK
DO NOT CLICK

But it raises the chance of you clicking them when you just want to scroll.Potter wrote:...false. When you embed an utuebz, it simply displays a bare frame until you play it. Also, image overload can happen too.
EDIT: It was also really late when I posted that initially and I was thinking of pages with autoplaying videos. Some phpBB boards allow you to auto-play embedded videos.
