I know Riot has said he hates The Best Gamers, but they did a really legit review of Fez.
Seriously, brings up some really good points about the game. It also brings up a lot of really good points about modern indy games and modern game reviews in general.
And Mr. Fish's only game is this POS and it's XBLA only.

Not bad points. If I just want to see a pretty looking game, I'll watch a speed run or something.
Re: What games are you currently playing?
Belinda bought it. We played it a little and like it so far.

Two mainstream indie platformers that I really liked:
Braid
Eversion
I think I'm going to wait for the hype, and it's pretty clear there is no shortage of Skrillex level hype, to die down a bit and see if the reviews normalize from 10/10 GODLIKE. No doubt it's a good game, but so are a billion other titles on my list. Lookin' at you No More Heroes 2.

I wanted to like Braid, but I didn't. Especially when I found out it wasn't the real ending, and I'm not going to try to go for it either.
Super Meat Boy baby.
Oh, and VVVVVV

I don't know where else to post about upcoming stuff, so oh well: http://shoryuken.com/2012/04/27/playsta ... ment-mode/
Not sure what to make of this one yet. It's obviously a total Smash Bros. ripoff, and it has some fun oldschool characters like Parappa. I was shocked that it seems like the main storyline of the game involves Patapon and how the little creatures are invading each stage and everything... kinda cool. So yeah I dunno! It looks like it'd be a fun party game maybe, but that's probably about it.

Chad you might like Spelunky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyMCo7Kv9k4
One of those very tough, "world is trying to kill you" but more fair sidescrollers

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Just beat Dragon's Dogma and Nier. Both pretty good action RPGs. Nier was a bit too fetch-questy and backtracky but the bosses were fun and a good mix of bullet hell schmup/RPG. Plus it's got a hermaphrodite so Chad would like that.
Playing Persona 3 Portable currently as I've never played a Persona game and it's pretty fun. Will definitely get Persona 4 for Vita and probably the new Persona fighting game eventually if it catches on competitively. Still have Deus Ex: Human Revolution to finish on Steam, and I bought Cave Story+ and Bastion for like $3 each on Steam sale. gaymz

Re: What games are you currently playing?
Persona 4 Arena is way fun. Very fast fighting game that's easy to pick up and has enough depth to make it really competitive. It's getting really really good reviews and it's picked up by a lot of the big tournies. TOO BAD NOBODY CARES ABOUT FIGHTING GAMES AROUND HERE

Here's some random hour long japanese footage of people playing (it's been the #1 arcade game for the last 6 months and had a better opening week of sales than any fighting game in history I believe, beating all the Street Fighters' opening week sales): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LXvuecK ... re=related
Akihiko soooo manlyyyyy. All the characters play really uniquely and everyone is actually pretty damn good, very balanced. It's got universal overheads, really solid anti-airs, pseudo-parrying (the closer you block to the instant the attack hits gives you frame advantage to counterattack), and is very reminiscent to a more easily-accessible Guilty Gear. It's also got a lot of kinda weird mechnics like being able to turn in the air so you can mix people up with jumping attacks, unblockable anti-airs to prevent constant jump pressure, no chickenblocking (when you jump you can't block for the first 5 frames), as well as 2-button invincible reversals for everyone that take away recoverable life but can get you out of trouble or be worked into combos. It is very fast and offensive, and there is a penalty for running away and spamming projectiles.. gives you a debuff if you turtle. No SRK motions either, so like I said, a little more streamlined. It has a huge 30+ hour story mode that continues the Persona 4 storyline, which was an awesome game too, but people won't really care to do that unless they've played the other game as much I guess. Amazing soundtrack and visuals too. Hardest part for me so far is getting used to 4-button gameplay, but I remapped my stick so it's a bit more Marvel-esque. It's typically:
A C
B D
But I am doing:
A B C
D
A and B are light and heavy attacks, and C and D are light and heavy Persona attacks, your character's big robotic creature. It's a pretty cool mechanic... you can call out your Persona to lock them down while you attempt to do mixups for instance, but it can be broken temporarily if it gets hit 4 times. Check out videos of Yu or Chie to see what I mean.
