How many communists does it take to screw in a light bulb?

None. The light bulb contains the seeds of its own revolution.

Is this referencing the Big Bang Theory? That show looks awful.

Probably like 100 or so on average. I don't really like to click that fast and it's not like Starcraft 1 where the interface is shitty and thus you have to click fast to do anything worthwhile. APM really only matters at the utter top-tier of play but I'm sure you knewwwwww that.

Dude I know this place pretty much blew the fuck up at around 1pm or so. I guess people got all their work done early and had free time after lunch.

1/3 of your year is free time at work.

260 - 14 days vacation * 8 hours a day (9 but I have a 1 hour lunch break) = 1952. None of it is free, but I take little breaks (like right now.) I'm not including little hours here and there when I work overtime with no pay or have to be on call with no overtime pay.

I have a hard time finding stats (from a reputable source) that say hour many hours a teacher works in a year.

It's maybe a 1/4, not a 1/3, and just because that's offtime doesn't mean I'm not still working (and besides, we don't get pay for vacation time). You NEED a break after teaching 12 and 13 year olds everyday... I would love to have a computer job where I could work at my own pace and just do what I wanted without 150 people depending on only me every minute of the day. Most teachers come in on weekends a decent amount of times, stay later, prepare and plan at home, and volunteer to do extracurricular clubs for very low compensation. Meg basically works 7-6pm most days and goes in on weekends. I have a lucky schedule where I don't have to plan a ton for each of my blocks, but I still don't get breaks during the day. Have to go to the bathroom sometime? Tough, can't leave the classroom for 90 minutes at a time. Then you have to juggle a billion things at once. I'm not saying YOU don't work a lot Chad, but I get mad when people like Kevin brag about how much they make and how little they work (and how they get to work at home which basically means not working). I don't understand how people have time to get on forums and make a ton of posts all day...

And tenure is not really there anymore; a bunch of stupid new laws make every teacher get evaluated based on some really hazy and dumb new parameters and the state says that your district must have a certain percentage of "unqualified" teachers, so even in a good district like ours, some teachers will get the shaft most likely and not get any raise to the already really low pay we have as young teachers. Basically, I don't get a raise every year unless I'm rated "highly effective," which is partially tied to ISTEP scores and a bunch of other really terrible ways to tie teacher influence to.

I'm ready to FUCKIN' FIGHT.

Teachers are definitely underpaid. There's no doubt about that. There are also a lot of developers that get away with doing only a few hours of work a day for 80k+ salaries. The private sector is bullshit like that. What pisses me off is how much lawyers make. The notion of some people we both know whose last name ends with -eronica making more than me (which is almost certain) is like a joke.

Anyway I'm leaving the office now.

Yea, sometimes there are definitely cases where people don't deserve what they make. In the case of lawyers, there are plenty of them who are overpaid, but I have also seen plenty of them who are working 12-18 hour days on a regular basis and definitely earned their paycheck so I legitimately cannot condemn all of them.

In the case of teachers, I cannot really comment on the situation as my experiences with public schools was with a school that many consider to be way too concerned with athletics and economic standing for their own good. I'll just say that I've seen some who are VERY good and deserve a much better salary, and some who shouldn't even have a job at all.

I went from private schools with 95% of my teachers being awesome to a public school with 30% of them being awesome (K-12 speaking, of course). I'm pretty sure the public school teachers make more than most Canterbury teachers.
