God damn. I'm not going to lie this is probably the best post on this forum right now because it's just so right. While I would enjoy some hyperbole and humorous anecdotes thrown in to the mix, the point you make is so correct and succinct that I can appreciate its beauty in its simplicity.

Bronies were cool when they enjoyed something and talked about enjoying things together, but then it became bigger and people flooded in all attention-whorey and ruined it for everyone. Now it's just a hugbox sympathy-fest for everyone to be all emo about their problems and shoving it up in people's business who don't really care instead of enjoying being around enjoyable people who enjoy similar things.

Exactly. People do a really good job in taking something niche, meme-ing it, spamming the fuck out of said meme, and completely obfuscating what made the niche thing cool in the first place.

I blame Reddit. One of my room mates who doesn't know shit about computers, types and talks like a retard, can't debate for shit, and is going back to college for a second undergrad (he got a general studies degree the first time) spouts off internet memes all day everyday. U mad bro?

That's why uber-niche inside jokes are awesome. Our very own "Amp Rage," "LOL Potter is 12 years old," and "Merk is fat" jokes are all great.

Yes, I am a fan of "in-jokes" a bit more than memes as well. I have plenty of my own from my own communities and even tight-knit friends. There's a philosophical term for groups-not-being-good-forever-because-they-get-ruined but I forgot what it was.

I also fucking hate reddit. I think of it as some sort of pseudo-intellectual, ultra leftist, hipster archangel version of eBaumsworld.

I don't like thinking of ponies as a meme more than a fandom. They have their own little memes just like the Bemani community does. But they're working their way into becoming Furries 2.0, which isn't something I'd like to vouch for.

I guess I got $5 in a Beatmania tournament once and like $140 in a really terrible Street Fighter IV tournament in Ottumwa, Iowa. Does that count?

I've made a good chunk of change playing poker though! Probably about $2,500 overall or something like that playing $5 SnGs and low buy-in luckaments. Remember when I won $1,100 off a $3 tournament? At the time I thought I was the biggest fucking baller in the world but I now (i.e. used to) get that much every paycheck.

I imagine being a professional gamer is like the worst job in the world.

Eh, IPv4 is obsolete. You need to learn IPv6 subnetting (fortunately, it's essentially the same as IPv4 CIDR with bigger addresses and larger prefixes).

Then again, people think I'm nuts for calculating the masks and address ranges in my head, so maybe I'm full of...something.

I was thinking about this yesterday while studying and yeah, IPv4 is obsolete but I imagine it's going to be as legacy as fuck. I don't know what I'm talking about, but a lot of intranet shit is probably going to still run on IPv4 out of laziness in most businesses.

Sort of like how people still code in C and Assembly today when there are much better options out there - LIKE PYTHON!
