Re: [Grubb's] Random Thoughts of the Day
Alright I'm going to talk about the DDR song Cafe for a bit. Here's why I think it's overall the best song on DDR:
- It's got a unique disco / Copacabana-esque feel to the music that hasn't been re-done in DDR
- The lyrics are mysterious in a non-engrishy sort of way
- The step chart goes well with the music
- The vocals don't sound like garbage like the usual Paula Terry or sped-up Japanese 17-year old vocal tropes
- It's a song that wouldn't make me cringe if it was played in a club. In fact, it's a legit song from the late 70s that alledgedly was played in discos back in the day.

Cafe was a favorite of mine back in the 4th Mix days. It's delightfully freestyleable.

Got rejected from grad school. I should probably kill myself now that I'm doomed to a life of break-fix technical support.

Can you reapply after taking a few classes and getting all As and good recommendations?
Can you just get a bunch of SQL certifications without a graduate degree?
-There are plenty of DBAs out there without a graduate degree.
Have you looked at other schools?

Yeah, I only applied to IU's graduate school because its IT program is pretty much the bottom of the dignity barrel. I was so incredibly confident that I would get in since they'll take pretty much anyone that I am completely shocked I got rejected. Honestly I feel worse about this than getting fired because I saw my termination coming and my immediate supervisor was a huge bitch.
* I could get some certs but I'm not sure what I would get or if it would really help. A cursory glance shows that training courses for these exams, which I will need, are about $4,000 dollars. From my experience, employers value experience over certs and therefore if I want to be a DBA I'm sort of in the infamous Chicken or the Egg problem. I can't be a DBA without experience, I can't get experience without being a DBA.
* No. I never looked because I didn't want to go anywhere else and I figured I would not get rejected. Since I can't get into IU's school I don't see where else I can go. Purdue definitely wouldn't accept a hack like me, IUPUI requires at least a 3.0 GPA (I have a 2.83), IPFW (lol) doesn't offer graduate studies in IT, Rose-Hulman has standards, and Indiana State is a joke. Ivy Tech and all those technical schools look shitty on a resume.
I took a look around and I am "unconditionally qualified" (their words) for these two programs:
- Ball State
- University of Louisville
* Possibly, but I've done that song and dance before. I applied to the Kelley school of business during my undergrad, got rejected, re-took business courses that I didn't do well in and got high marks, re-applied, got rejected a second and final time. Do I really want to gamble a year of my life on the possibility of getting accepted? If I get rejected then that time is wasted.Fluffyumpkins wrote:Can you reapply after taking a few classes and getting all As and good recommendations?

Re: [Grubb's] Random Thoughts of the Day
i want my food free of artificial processes (i conflate "artificial" with "human" b/c im of the bizarre anthropocentric opinion that human actions are in some way exempt from inclusion in the natural world).
thats why i only eat things that aren't genetically modified, or sprayed with chemicals, or processed, or stored, or harvested, or grown, or fed, or planted, or farmed in any way.
i just sit naked in a field and eat only the seeds and bugs that drift into my half-open mouth

I want to make a fat joke, but just saying that I want to make one is probably mean enough.Merk wrote:i want my food free of artificial processes (i conflate "artificial" with "human" b/c im of the bizarre anthropocentric opinion that human actions are in some way exempt from inclusion in the natural world).

Where is Merk today? He has been oddly silent. I hope I didn't pick on him too hard.

He's not in the office on Thursdays or Fridays. My guess is he's:
EDIT: Lists ftw.
- Playing with cats
Making lunch
Texting the lady
Playing DDR
Packing for the move
Taking a nap
Grocery shopping
EDIT: Lists ftw.
