Hey Merk--
is the 80 GB system you're looking at an older 80 GB model or a newer one? The easiest way you can tell is if it has 4 USB (old model) or 2 USB (new) on the front.

The old models will play PS2 games.

If that's not a concern, then go with the cheapest one you can find that isn't broken. The hard drive can easily be upgraded by purchasing a new one from newegg (just need a 5400 RPM SATA laptop drive, they swap out very easily, instructions on the internet etc).

Or you could do as Riot suggests and get an Xbox 360. They're not as reliable and don't have a blu ray player, but they do have everything you want aside from MGS4. But then if you want to play online during the week at all you gotta subscribe. And if you don't want your Xbox on top of your internet router, you have to buy a wireless adapter for it. And if you want to upgrade your hard drive you have to buy a proprietary M$ hard drive. And if you have a wireless controller for the 360 it takes batteries and you'll end up buying rechargeables for that.

And now that Squenix has wizened up and started announcing/releasing games on PS3, the argument for the 360 having more RPGs won't be as strong.

Also about homebrew:
PS3 will let you install other operating systems on it, Linux being preferred. Through Linux you'll be able to run emulators to play everything from N64 down to Atari 2600.

Hmmmmm, Joe has very strong arguments towards getting a PS3. Do I hear a rebuttal?

That reminds me, I'm completely ignorant on this subject, but since Blu-ray became the standard what does that mean for the 360 since they use HD-DVDs? I'm guessing probably nothing for the short-term, but I was curious if this had any sort of significance on the long-term.

360's don't inherently use HD-DVD's, you had to buy some kind of upgrade for it. All 360 games are on normal DVD-ROMs.

be weary!

at 12:01 tonight, Facebook allows users to create "usernames". In their meaning - customize your page's URL!

ex:
facebook.com/cbav
facebook.com/indyddr
facebook.com/lukeskywalker

personally I have some hilarious usernames already in mind. Gotta nab' em before the internet swallows them into submission.

Six Flags: More flags, more bankrupt!
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.
