help with video

Post by lgolem »

ok, so I am looking for a good (preferably free) video convert, to convert AVI to WMV so I can make something play on my 360. Any ideas on a program that will do so?

The Windows Movie Maker that ships with recent versions (XP and newer) of Windows should be able to do this provided you have a suitable directshow setup for the source. If WMP can play your AVI, you have such a setup.
A normality test:

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

If you can't get WMM to convert it, I believe Microsoft also offers Windows Media Encoder for free somewhere on their site, which can convert almost anything to .wmv.

Set windows to show file extensions. Simply change the .avi to a .wmv

I'm sure Brandon and Dan would agree this is the most simple solution. As a side note, you may need to restart your computer so the file system associates this change within windows registry keys.

Will the 360 demux an AVI container? If it will, but only accepts things named .wmv, then yes, that's the most straightforward solution. If the 360 won't demux a AVI, then that accomplishes nothing. I have no idea what you mean by rebooting to update file extensions.

Surprisingly, stupid shit like this actually works usually.
Yeah, if you can get it to work, this is the easiest solution.
But I guess you figured it out with SUPER, which I've also heard is excellent.
