Rap Music, and the Discussion of It
Moderator: Moderators
WNOU, Radio Now 93.1 in Indianapolis, was taken off the air and replaced with 93 days of Christmas music. Radio Now was the main top 40 radio station, playing all sorts of things from shitty rap to shitty pop-rap.
God has a way of dealing with things, only this time used irony and a sense of humor. <3
..Plus I love Christmas.

Don't celebrate yet, ShammerS.
RadioOne bought the rights to Radio Now a couple days after it went off the air, and promptly put it back on the air on 100.9, replacing the smooth jazz station that used to be there.
So, not only does Radio Now live on, it bumped another station off the air to survive.

Rap replaced my christmas music? Hillarious. Personally, I loathe christmas music...but, if it's mainstream rap, I'm all for it.
Sadly, absolute shit has a way of surviving...Figures they'd bump out a station that actually plays traditional music. Jazz, while not my favorite, actually requires musical skill to create.
Damn you hip hop. Damn you.

How about T.I. winning two Hip Hop Honors awards last night?
...but getting arrested hours before the show? Hilarious.
That was like the time when my friend got "Perfect Attendance" at school, but wasn't at the ceremony to claim the award that day. True story.

Fun fact: only 3 posts at IndyDDR.com contain the word "boop."BigBadOrc wrote:boop
I don't know, the quality of Christmas music they are playing on 93.1 right now is rather bland. I haven't really heard a good classic Christmas tune on there yet, but then again, it's not even the right time to be listening to the stuff anyway.
The moment I hear Mannheim Steamroller though, is the moment my fist bashes unmercifully into my radio with full, reckless abandon until my seathing rage for their cheesy synths has ceased. I bet if you listened to them long enough your blood would be filled with rage. Kinda' like those monkeys did in 28 Days Later.

That raises another rantworthy point... ...as much as I like Rap being struck down, it's way too fucking early for christmas ANYTHING. It's not even halloween yet. If you wanna go christmas shopping early, fine, more power to you...but you don't have to listen to christmas music and see fucking holly and wreaths and trees and fucking cockgobbling santa statues in the aisles while doing so.
That shit doesn't put me in the mood to shop...it puts me in the mood to get the hell out of whatever retail establishment is blaring christmas music and being....well, fucking jolly. The mall is notorious for this.

Yes, bad rap is better than Mannheim Steamroller ANYDAYZeedeveel wrote:The moment I hear Mannheim Steamroller though, is the moment my fist bashes unmercifully into my radio with full, reckless abandon until my seathing rage for their cheesy synths has ceased. You're not a true rapper until you have been arrested like 5 times and have been shot at.Jeff Jeff Revolution wrote:How about T.I. winning two Hip Hop Honors awards last night?

I personally like rap, but I completely try to block out lyrics. I like rap songs for their rhythm and what kind of mood they get me in. Yeah, I can agree that a lot of rap songs sound the same, but pretty much all rap songs, except for old school rap, and Will Smith raps, will have some sort of crude reference to women or drugs or sex. I have just blocked it out because it is so commonplace in rap. So I have decided not to care, and simply listen to rap for the beats and rhythm.
That's my input.
As far as 93.1 goes....I think it's kinda crazy that they didn't really give a whole lot of warning before they did it...and I mean, Christmas songs are cool and everything....so long as they are not IN OCTOBER?!?!? Right now they should be playing Halloween themed music. Christmas songs, to me, are only cool once it starts snowing. Then it starts feeling Christmasy.
I mean, I know 93.1 has just moved to 100.9, but I have read the news articles about how the new station that is going to be broadcasted on 93.1 did this because they wanted their 70 year old radio talk show to be listened to by more people. They think that younger people are all of a sudden going to start listening to it now because it is on FM. If that's like the only reason why they did it, then I think they are wrong.
This was the news story:
