Anybody go to college where you can get Vista Ultimate 64bit

Post by Riot »

I need Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. IU only sells 32-bit =( I know Ball State sells it or something (but you have to take a little survey to get it, I guess to see if you're TOUGH enough for 64bit) so if anybody goes somewhere where they can get a discounted version, let me know <3

About the only thing 64 bit Windows gets you is driver headaches and the ability to have a single application use >2GB of RAM (even the 32bit version supports PAE, allowing 16GB of total RAM). Oh, and you can run all five (or so) 64-bit windows apps. Do you REALLY need the 64 bit edition?
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Building a quad core, 4gb ram, 8800ultra system. Newer games are gonna take advantage of 64bit, like Crysis, and more soon. I know there are driver issues, but I don't do that much besides gaming and a bit of video editing. From what I've read the driver issues are dying down, and most of the reviews I've read said it's fine for gaming and looks great.

Yup it'll be crazy. I figure I'm going to get Vista for DX10 graphics no matter what, and I might as well get 64 bit over 32... it might not have as many drivers, but it runs faster, looks sharper, and will benefit my 64bit processor more.

I have a copy of both 64 and 32 bit. And the DVD-Rs to burn it. If you want a copy I can make one and see that it gets to you.

64 bit would be sexy, please =P What about keys though? I suppose I'd have to get a cracked key somewhere online? I'd prefer to get a legit version (from a college for cheap which I why I made this topic!) if I could, but I won't say no to that version especially since I can always have it as a backup. Not sure how burned copies work, I assume it's the same as just a normal OS cd?

Yeah its the same as a normal, when you boot up, go into BIOS and change the boot priority. I am pretty sure the keys come with it and I can set those aside on a sticky note or something in a case.

Or....

If you are updating from a previous OS (i.e. XP, ME, etc.) you can simply load the disc in and if you have a .ISO program run it from your desktop. Which enables you to access the keys within the notepad file.

It's gonna be on a completely new build, i.e. this would be the first thing to touch the system. Is the version you have torrented or something?

Yeah, most programs I acquire are torrented. I was thinking of putting Vista on this compter but decided against it seeing is how there are possible compatibility issues with Steam (Brick had Steam on Vista, ran horrible. But then again I haven't had the chance to see if it was possibly his computer being the problem).

Eh, it might have been his computer. I will have to look into it, and if so.... Then I will probably throw one of the two versions on here.

PS: Do you play CS or CS:S?
