We've got great health care, just not the opportunities for a lot of people.Potter wrote:http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

I found another "Yard Sale Treasure." This time, the place was filled with contraband, I could tell. I'm not sure if "Wild Hogs" is for sale on DVD yet, but I know for a fact that you can't buy one of these:

My brother bought that for me for $4. It already matches the "No Parking" sign I have in my room that I got for $2.
Also, I got really bored today at work and had a dinosaur fight with my dinosaur pen and dino-stressball:

Sure, you can (they have it in other sizes, as well). I'd imagine that McMaster Carr has them, too.Jeff Jeff Revolution wrote:I found another "Yard Sale Treasure." Now, at $4, yours was "a steal".
At one point, LSS also had a similar sign to a stop sign, but it was green and said "GO". Would have made for a great April Fool's day prank if I had the money to buy enough of them.

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

And arguably, say, Italy has the best sports cars in the world...but only the rich can afford them.Potter wrote:http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

having the best quality of healthcare available doesn't mean jack if it's not accessible to everyone. And of course, by accessable, I mean affordable.

Another thing about those LSS signs, they're only 18 inches wide. This stop sign is about 2 and a half feet long.MonMotha wrote:At one point, LSS also had a similar sign to a stop sign, but it was green and said "GO". Potter, I'm not going to say anything in defense or support of what you said. I'm just going to blurt a random fact. Consider this unrelated and not an argument.
Mexicans cross the border, get sick, and get free health care whether they're legally here or not. I work in the ED at our county hospital as a translator. Americans cross the border, go to the hospital, and are refused (a.k.a. fucked). The system isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination (lawyers are fucking the pharmacutical companies so hard it hurts), but there are definetely people taking advantage of it in some ways.
Factor in things like nursing shortages (which, ironcally, aren't due to the lack of people wanting to be nurses but rather nurse education, which has taken a backseat on the funding list) and outrageous malpractice suits, and you're on to something.

I don't have my print catalog handy, and it would be horribly out of date anyway, but I think they have them about that size. I'm guessing they sell USDOT spec signs.MonMotha wrote:they have it in other sizes, as well
Also, see McMaster-Carr, like I said. #5940T72 is a 30" x 30" reflective aluminum stop sign for $63.57. They also have 24" x 24" for $48.06. Search for "road signs". You can buy just about anything from McMaster-Carr; their catalog is 3639 pages long!

yea. I'm not trying to say why or how we are that low on the list, or say we have a terribly bad system. its just an independent survey I linked to. and yea mexico has it bad compared to us, I know. they're 61st on the list.

Not to fall into the category of "ROMANIA LOLZ!!!" again, but although Romania is much lower than the U.S. on that list, my uncle had a certain surgery attempted here, at the Mayo Clinic (generally recognized as one of the best clinics in the U.S.), 2 or 3 times, and each time it was unsuccessful. However, he went to Romania, got it done once, paid a lot less, and it was successful.
Also, just a general annoyance of mine about "family doctors" here in the U.S. They really don't seem to know their area well, at all. If you take an active role in your health, and say, browse WebMD about your problem before going to your doctor, you'll find that he tells you the exact same things you already found out; in essence, what are you paying for? You go there, wait 10-20 minutes while he looks it up (probably using the same site you did) just for him to tell you what you already knew, amd to take Tylenol, and then get charged $300.

usually I would call complete bullshit on that, as they go to medical school for years etc. but I was pretty fucking blown away when my family doctor couldn't recognize the symptoms of a migraine. I mean my god. I diagnosed myself correctly when he couldn't. shiny thing in vision before intense headache starts, normal pain meds do nothing, intense disabling pain, I told him these symptoms 2 visits in a row and he was at a complete loss. I looked it up myself, realized it in 2 seconds, classic migraine with aura. figured out (most) of my triggers, and thankfully haven't had a migraine in about a year.
