I just have the lame IIDX RED e-amuse card that came with 8th style. =( I carry it in my wallet, though, and I was able to use it in Japan. Rock.

Because there will be many more PS2s out there than PS3s. Plus, it's not like Beatmania requires all the extra power that the PS3 will offer over the PS2. Also programming for the two systems is probably completely different; why start from scratch when you can recycle code from the previous versions? It would probably get more attention if it was released on the PS3 (due to ther being less games available for the system), but I'd be willing to be that it would sell less copies, as well as be more expensive to develop.

licensing, urks between developers and publishers, no market etc, etc, etc. You might play IIDX but I promise it won't catch on, it's way too hard of a game for the mainstream masses to enjoy it. Maybe a few of the otaku homos will get into it...but it won't be anywhere near as popular as ddr...beatmania failed hard in america
insert code compile execute return

I have to agree. It looks like 9th Style...reskinned...badly. How they could make such a pretty and sharp interface look so butt ugly is beyond me. Perhaps with luck the screenshots just don't do it justice and it will look fine in real life. *crosses fingers*

IMO this might not do very well since everyone that once it already has it(import, modchip, etc.)
Of course you have the new players and the people who don't do the aforementioned methods, so that's one area that konami will have to play off of, but for regular players(not me) this could go either way. If you're a big fan of bemani games and have to have them all, then okay. To me this looks like it could go the ultramix 2 route.
We'll just have to see

Actually I beg to differ as I think it has some pretty good potential. The songs that have been revealed thus far were songs that were released from 3rd - 6th styles (which are out of print) and the fact that it will be using the high res engine has the potential to make it more appealing to those who already have all 6 (soon to be 7) JP releases. Given they don't have any timing issues with the songs (lenient window or just plain offsync) the only thing that would work against it is the lack of songs (only 50) and that ugly purple interface.

Today the overwhelming majority of the songs that will be in Beatmania US have been revealed.

* METAL GEAR SOLID Main Theme
* OVERBLAST!!
* PARANOiA MAX ~DIRTY MIX~
* s.d.z.
* Toxic (remix) / ?

* Virtual Insanity (remix) / ?

beatmania IIDX

* 20,November (radio edit) / dj nagureo

* SNOW / RAM
* Summer Vacation (CU mix) / OutPhase (dj TAKA & TaQ)
* THE SHINING POLARIS / THE SHINING POLARIS / L.E.D. feat. Sana
* V / TAKA

Licensed Songs

* First Day / Timo Maas
* Funkytown / Lipps, Inc.
* Lift Me Up / Moby

My Thoughts:

1. I am still opposed to the whole beatmania/beatmania IIDX mode crap they are doing due to the fact that in every IIDX release all songs had both 5 key and 7 key variations. Of note being that Paranoia Max (Dirty Mix) has been on IIDX, but will only be on 5 key!
2. Colors and V. We got 2 songs in the mix that are rated 12 stars on Happy Sky and are probably gonna cause the newer players to pull their hair out when they see these for the first time.
3. Licensed songs BAAD!!!! Atleast there are only 5 of them for this game!
4. Please god let the sync be consistent like in 8th - 10th styles!
