I believe this is also tied into the cards that you may have seen going around for the various games (somewhat similar to Initial D cards, but for a different purpose).

I think that Konami is controlling things like song unlocks and software piracy protection using this sytem. I suppose if there's a network in place that sending an e-mail out wouldn't be much of a problem for them.
This sounds interesting. I'll see if I can talk to some people when I visit Japan (since I'm supposed to be researching my topic, not just playing Bemani) about this network. With the prevalence of data networks in large Japanese cities, I could see this being doable. I don't know how they'd handle locations not in large cities.

Of course, this wouldn't work in the US. Namco establishments still use a 9600 baud dialup for their work :)

If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

ee'mall is a machine that you use to (among other things, though not completely sure what else) unlock new songs in the Bemani games you play. You have to have an eAmusement card for the particular game(Pop'n, GF, DM, or IIDX) and when you pass songs, you gain skill points. I'm not sure exactly how skill points are awarded, but when you have a certain amount, you can use them to "buy" new songs for that game through the ee'mall machine.
Sounds interesting, eh?
ee'mall I've actually heard of. I believe this pertains to other Bemani games as well as I can recall downloading GF/dm song packs (for a simulator) that were labeled as ee'mall. This certainly seems more useful (from a gaming perspective) than sending e-mail. ;)

I've been looking at songlists for some of the AC versions of PnM. Some of the eeMall versions are especially interesting. Be Lovin', Break Down, Destiny Lovers, Henry Henry, and yes, you can now get pwned (intentional) by End of the Century on not 1, not 2, but 3 games!

Looks like there's a lot of songs from BM and DDR, but Henry Henry makes me want to find one :) Too bad it appears to be a point based unlock and based on the screenshots I've seen, I won't be figuring out how to use that unlock system anytime soon (I didn't see a single romanji on the screen).

Now to actually get back on topic...

While Starlightcat4 and I were over in Japan just recently, we saw people playing PnM 12 and selecting challenges like 80,000 or less than 20 misses (these two could be picked simultaneously, I think maybe one point related and one scoring related). When these were completed, you gained "skill points" or whatever based upon their difficulty probably for use with the system previously mentioned.

I can try to scan or pass along to someone with a scanner a pamphlet on PnM 12 if anyone wants.

Since we're not PnM experts in the least, we usually stuck to battle mode when playing...3 buttons per player, 3 songs, 100 Yen.

On newer versions of Pop'n (Both 11 and 12AC, 11CS, dunno about older AC but not older CS), "normal" mode is actually a mode for beginners who just hit the button all the way in. I found this out the hard way since I can't read any of the Japanese and had only played up through CS10 prior to my trip to Japan. I finally ended up asking someone who explained it to me ;)

Hence, everyone plays challenge mode. Depending on the options you select (and you can pick none) it's identical to the "normal" play modes on older Pop'n (at least CS), and you get challenge points. From what I understand, once you get enough points (which takes a while), you can go to an eemall machine and buy more songs. Many are songs taken from other games (like GF/DM, DDR, IIDX, etc). I believe you can also just put a coin into the eemall machine and outright buy points, though I did not confirm this since the interface to eemall is very not english speaker friendly. Of course, this only works if the machines you're playing on are on e-amuse and you have an e-amuse card.

I'm not sure, but you may be able to do similar things with IIDX and GF/DM, but I think eemall may be limited to Pop'n Music, which is rather popular right now. I didn't play enough Pop'n Music to really get much use out of it since I mostly played IIDX as I have a Pop'n controller at home but no IIDX controller currently.

Do you (or anyone) have PNM 11 CS up and running yet? I hear it's very yummy. If I get it to work I'll let you all know.

It's on my PS2, though I've not yet gotten a chance to play it. I've got a full unlock file for it that I'm going to try and X-Port onto my mem card later this evening. I took a brief look at it, and it does look good. If it's anything like 11th AC with songs, this should be awesome, and I'll probably buy a copy some time.

Supposedly it gets desynced (like IIDX 9th) when played via HD Loader, so I'll have to see how bad that is.

I'm avoiding using the unlock codes, for Pop 'n 7, 8, and 10, I've used other people's unlocked saves, and I end up playing the game for a few weeks, and getting sick of 'em, because I don't play any other songs, since I'm not forced to (since everything was unlocked already). So I'm kinda making it a point to unlock everything in 11 myself. People have been saying a lot of the notecharts are AWESOME, so I really want to play them all.

I'm just happy Fantasy EX is in there. Such an awesome song.

As for Pop 'n Iroha flyers, I got a ton of 'em, I can distribute a few, or Bemanistyle is selling 'em for a buck or two (I think it includes shipping).

I unlocked 8 myself (well, mostly - I started from a save that was slightly unlocked) and that was reasonably fun. I've gotten quite annoyed with Gambler Z mostly since I can't figure out where my last 10% or so is (I may need to go play its training mode). The 10 unlock system seems far too random and annoying - you can try to time it, but it's still a gamble. I just got an unlock all for it. Since I use Pop'n Navy to track my scores, I know what I have and haven't played anyway.

I'll take a look at 11's unlock system and see how it is. The challenge interface didn't seem too non-Japanese-speaker friendly, but since there's no money on the line, I can just play around.
