I must agree...Beck does rock. I can't think of a song I don't like from them. And there really isn't another band that sounds quite like them...

I never really liked Beck. It's interesting, I'll give it that, but not really something I feel like listening to on a regular basis.

Some bands I forgot to mention.......

The Snake the cross the crown
The Fall of Troy
Death From Above 1979
These Arms are Snakes
Icarus Line
Unwritten Law
Death By Stereo
Gatsby's American Dream
Vendetta Red

I'm not sure if I should post more....might be a music overload.

This thread will definitely help me fill up my iRiver eventually, only 13 gigs left. I had to clear my 1000+ library when I reformatted my system, blech. So any bands that people mention, even if I know them, will help because I might have temporarily forgotten about them.

I LOVED American Idiot. Until I listened to it 3214577844 times, and now that I know all the words, I don't listen to it much anymore.

Heh, I have just become a HUGE Josh Groban fan. How tragic is that? His music is just so...relaxing. I can't get enough. But there are all my favorites:

The Starting Line, The Ataris, Yellowcard, The Used, All-American Rejects, Blink, Boxcar Racer, Relient K, Jimmy Eat World, etc. Those are just the few I can come up with off the top of my head, but those are some definite favs :D .

I'm really fucking sick
Of Beck and 311,
And Marylin Manson,
I wish someone would break his fucking neck!

And what about Bush
And lame-ass Oasis?
Hey, talk about pretentious,
why don't they just blow England off the map?!

Every now and then
I turn it on again
But it's plain to see that
The radio still sucks!!!

Correction: The radio songs that were whored were the sucky ones.

Listen to Definitely Maybe and the other songs on Morning Glory.

I know that music tastes are opinions and only opinions(for the most part, unless you're an mtv drone), but I actually really dislike the Ataris. I think they murdered Don Henley's Boys of Summer. Badly.
THEY AREN'T PUNK, FOLKS. Don't try to play them like they are.

Josh Groban can put on quite a show too. I have a live concert of him at the Greek. He can sing and the women love him. However, you're right, it's definitely not something you want to listen while, let's say, working out.

And looking at your list, I now remember that your a punk music fan...:P
Wait a tic...palm trees, beaches...and punk music. Something just doesn't seem right there.... :) lol!!!

Hey, nothin wrong with Phantom of the Opera music. I for one am a fan of the broadway show music. I appreciate many types of music, including this kind.
I'm just not a fan of some "so called" music...ie. rap. That is not music, in my opinion. Anyone can put incoherent words together with a bad beat. It takes a real genious to put together something like, let's say, Bethoveen's 5th Symphony.

But again, this is only my opinion. 8)

If you want an artist that sounds like Beck try listening to Sufjan Stevens first record Sun Came, it's not exactly the same but it reminds me of Mellow Gold in parts. Or if you want something that sounds like Beck's One Foot in the Grave, or Sea Change, there's a million alt-country-folk bands out there.

I can appreciate most kinds of music as just that, music, even if I don't happen to like it. However, as was just said, and seems to have been said before, I don't think Rap is music. A cultural icon for the ghetto, perhaps, but it's not what I'd call music.
A drum and bass line that repeats itself through the entire song.
An over-blinged man/woman mumbling made up words about sex and violence, while a 'featured' artist pretends to sing in the background.
I saw a live concert on TV, for a song that was really popular, had Lil John in it I think...the majority of the song was the featured artist (dunno who it was) singing, AND HE WASN'T EVEN ON STAGE. Meanwhile, lil john is yelling random things to the ladies every few measures, and the crowd is going crazy....

WHY?! Anyone can do that!
One day me and God of Rock were gonna record a 'rap' song, just to show how easy it is. We havn't actually gotten around to it yet though. Since no one's going to pay me millions of dollars for it, there isn't much reason to do it.

I'm confused by someone who claims to like Hot Water Music and From Autumn to Ashes and yet hates emo.

Anyone Else??
Uh, yeah. Listen to older Hot Water Music, like Fuel for the Hate game and any album before. Not exactly what i'd call "emo". And the only "emo" song on "Too Bad You're Beautiful" is chloroform perfume. FATA is what everyone calls "Progressive"now. Listen to the original emo like Cocaine or Converge. Even the fags in the sweaters and scarves and let alone the fags in girls pants and bright pink shirts are just a shadow of original emo. It's not about crying or being in touch with ones emotions. Emo is punk that grew off of the main scene because the topic was based around human emotions and then became more drum, bass, and scream driven. Screamo IS the original Emo. Screamo was a term made by the Getupkids generation to take over the scene because all their music is really, is power pop. So learn what the fuck you are talking about before you fucking front with me again over stupid shit Mr. I'm named after a modern power pop band.
