Doom 3: Reloaded! (RoE)

Post by Original Sin »

OMG Halo!!!!!!!!!!!!!one

No. The new Doom 3 expansion pack, Ressurection of Evil came out recently, and since there was a big buzz around here when Doom 3 came out, I figured I'd post something about.
Well, I purchased it a little over a week ago. It installed smoothly and quickly, no problems or glitches that I noticed.
The game itself, basically, is more Doom. Since it is an expansion, after all, not a sequal. Now, there are some new things to take note of however. New weapons, of course, new enemies, and most importantly, a whole new area to explore and run screamig through like a little girl.
New Weapons-
'Grabber'- Essentially, this is like the gravity gun from Half Life 2, though not quite as strong. However, the real beauty of this is that you can grab fire balls and projectiles out of the air and throw them as if they were your own. A very useful weapon, especially if you're low on ammo.

Double barrel shotgun- Pretty self explanitory. 2 shells of buckshot to the face at point blank will take down damn near anything in the game, short of maybe a Hell Knight and one of the new critters. Of course, it takes a tad longer to reload, but if you aim right, it won't matter anyway.

The Artifact- Now, this little gizmo is quite interesting. It resembles a human heart, and gains new powers as you progress through the game. Initially, you can slow time ala Neo, while you and your weapons/bullets still move at normal speed. As you progress, add Berserk, and Invincibility to that power, and you've got quite a powerful weapon.
It holds three charges, and can be recharged by stealing souls from human bodies. :D They're conveniently littered about the facility for your soul stealing jollies, too, so it's all good.

Over all, it's Doom 3 with new maps and some new elements. Just an expansion, but it's fun none the less.

Discuss, ask questions and what have you.

And actually, Doom 3 didn't just come out. It's been out since last year. It was just recently released for X box, but it's not new.
The expansion however, is new. It was just released this month, far as I know.

The expansion is for the PC version. It came out on the same day as the XBox version.

Heh he, nope. However, I didn't find myself using the flashlight as much as I did in the original. But, you know they designed the flashlight/gun separation for a reason, right? It makes it far more frightening when you're shooting in the dark.

Yes indeed.

And those flashlight/ductape mods have been around since the day after the game was released...Still pretty lame though.
It takes away a lot of the game play elements the developers added in. Not nearly as scary.

If you enjoy Doom 3, I'd recommend getting the expansion. There's some new gameplay elements, and more areas to explore, all in Doom 3 style.
Also, the bosses in the game are somewhat more difficult, in the fact that you can't just blast the hell out of em (no pun intended), but you actually have to use certain items, and your environment to win.
Also, you get the famous double barrel shotgun. What's not to love? :D
