many more

When I was in Japan like, 2 years ago, I watched this game show on TV called 'Sumo Rider,' at least I think that's what it was called. They had a bunch of guys dressed up like 50's bikers, driving these little motorcycles around in a circle, and they had to like, improv rap one after the other, I think continuing on what the person before them was saying. I'm not really sure of the premise of it, but when someone screwed up, a full sized sumo wrestler would run out of this door, kick their ass up and down the stage, then run back into his hideout.
So, essentially, I was watching a bunch of japanese guys get their asses kicked by a fat dude. It doesn't matter what the premise was, because it was damn funny.

I'm going to go left-field and suggest my absolute favorite japanese movie, which is neither very crazy or unusual: Ping-Pong. Very obvious what it involves, following a group of players through their high school years. Great stuff. Aside from that, I'll stand behind any of Miike's movies (of course, some better than others) and Higuchinsky's work with Junji Ito (Uzumaki, Long Dream). If you're into the cute girls angle, go with Shimotsumo Monogatari; most recent japanese flick I've watched, and definitely worth seeing.

If you guys are into crazy Japanese game shows then I'd highly recommend you getting ahold of the Japanarama series of videos. There's three volumes and each one is two hours of hilarious Japanese craziness.
