DDR Subwoofers

Hello Everyone!

Would someone happen to know the size of the sub woofers in a Dance Dance Revolution Cabinet (I have been told by one guy they are 10 inch and another they are 12 inch)? I have my extreme cabinet and looking to replace both of them as they are old and not functioning very well, however I am not sure where to start out or what to look for, If someone could post me a link to some that would be compatible, I would be very grateful :D

That's a good question! I'll measure mine tonight when I get home from work and let you know.

Define: not functioning very well

Do they sound rattly or distorted? Are they weak? Are you sure it's the actual speakers or is it possibly the amp?

I've found that the foam surround that connects the cone to the frame of the speaker often dry rots. You can get re-foam kits if you want of course they're not exactly high-end speakers to start with.

I've got a spare in a box to replace one of mine that has dry rotted as such. I'll see if I can measure it for you.

Oh I measured the diameter from edge to edge of the speaker on my cabinet and it came out to 13 inches exactly. That includes the bezel around the little speaker holes and shit.

Thanks for the information, I re-checked mine and it appears to have several rips on the front of it, Pretty sure it's blown, I am thinking a buddy of mine who also likes DDR probably cranked it up to max when he was watching my house when I was on Vacation as I noticed both of the volume knobs were maxed out when I powered on the machine >.<, Would I need to get any specific subs or would any 4 ohm ones work?

Any 4 ohm (or whatever's in there now - I do think it's 4) sub that fits should work. I don't think there's any crazy acoustical engineering going on with the cabinet.

You may want to replace both of them so that they look similar (or you may not care).

Tip: For that size and resistance, you're basically shopping in the car audio section. :)
