Re: Dance Dance Revolution
In short I love the sexy new white cabinet. However the software is still *meh*, they have not upgraded the graphics capability since SuperNOVA, and the song selection seems rather typical. Not counting the Stepmania/In The Groove level of hardcore play, there seems to be nothing to bring existing players to the next level of play since X2. I have not seen enough videos to say for sure but it seems that the Course mode (Nonstop/Challenge) is still the same from the last three versions.
If this (or any other version of DDR) was to come stateside I would have thought Konami would have made some announcement during The Amusement Expo last month, however there was nothing. It seems clear that Konami continues to decline in the North American arcade market. I wish there was something we can do about it, however I see nothing can be done getting Konami out of it's grave.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Wait, since when does any DDR mix have comparable difficulty to even 13s from ITG2? I guess Paranoia Revolution looks comparable but I haven't really kept up with new songs (also haven't played any dancing games for approx. 2.5 years).WyomingMyst wrote:In short I love the sexy new white cabinet. I really love CS:GO's 64 tick servers.

Paranoia Respect is an ITG 11 at best.

I don't know much about ITG 13s, but these are all pretty tough.

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
Valkyrie Dimension looks harder than anything on ITG2 release, tbh. 888 and Pluto look 12-ish, Hades 11...say, "Yay" to subjectivity.Fluffyumpkins wrote:Paranoia Respect is an ITG 11 at best.

I've always disliked a lot of the newer so-called boss songs on DDR because I feel they overuse gimmicks and 1x reading to make it challenging whereas ITG charts relied less on bullshit instant tempo changes and more on stamina and speed. I'm not saying there isn't a place for both game mechanics and athletic performance but I just have a personal preference for the latter.
I wouldn't really expect Konami to try and touch the stuff that the customs kiddies are doing, though. It's not very accessible.

To be clear, are we talking about ITG charts or charts made by the ITG community?

Re: Dance Dance Revolution
I'd actually give a little more credit to the difficulty of DDR Boss Songs. It's kind of hard to compare because, aside from the gimmicks already mentioned, the core of the difficulty arises from hella fast crossovers and step jumps, whereas ITG type songs derive most of their difficulty from stream (or foot speed with easy patterns).

I was talking about release songs, not community customs.Fluffyumpkins wrote:To be clear, are we talking about ITG charts or charts made by the ITG community?

Things really changed from, "Man, I can't wait to play some DDR/ITG." to "Man, I should really play more DDR/ITG." I guess I just don't have that much fun with it anymore.

I would play significantly more if I had a playable machine closer than 60 miles away.Fluffyumpkins wrote:Things really changed from, "Man, I can't wait to play some DDR/ITG." to "Man, I should really play more DDR/ITG." I guess I just don't have that much fun with it anymore.
