It's kinda funny, to be quite honest when I first discovered what DDR was, I was way too intimidated by it to play. Everyone else I watched were soooo good at it, and I didn't want to be embarrassed. Actually, what my main problem was, I had no idea when I was supposed to step. I wasn't sure if I had to step when they were in the middle of the screen or at the top or bottom....and THEN
this one day I went to DDR with my best friend Katie, and she said, HEY let's do DDR! So I was like, ok! And she told me when to step, which was when the arrows got to the top of the screen. After I found out that secret I was set for life (at the time)! At first I did it occasionally, cuz I thought it was really fun. I was bad though cuz at the time, I didn't know what the term "7 footers" etc meant. I didn't know you could find out the speed of the song on the left hand side of the screen when choosing a song. I didn't realize that I could alter my options to spread out the notes and make life easier. Most importantly, I didn't know that it doesn't count against your score if you keep your feet on the arrows...therefore, I always came back to the center plate after hitting a note. When I started, I was BAAAAD news!
Then I met my boyfriend:-) And he taught me everything I needed to know about getting better at DDR. Right now, I play because:
1) It's a good cardio workout
2) It's soooooo much fun
3) I want to get better. I like it when I make progress on a difficult song.
4) The songs are freakin awesome
5) It's a challenge and I'm always up for a challenge!
My first AA was Twilight Zone on Standard. After I had only been playing for like 4 or 5 months. maybe a little more. once again, I'm bad with dates.

The strict cause: I play because almost three years ago, this poor, naive fool at Uni set up his soft pads in the dorm lobby and said, "Here, try it!" So I did. IIRC, I went against another complete newbie who started a song while I was messing around with the settings, and wound up 'trying' La Senorita Virtual on Maniac. So I stood there staring at the arrows and laughing [hysterically] as they whizzed by way too fast for me to comprehend.
Needless to say, I was hooked.
The semantic cause: I play because it gives me an outlet for my excess energy, a way to make a fool of myself in public, an excuse to observe the culture of faraway arcades, a chance to see fun and/or interesting people, and a safe haven as far away from real dancing as possible.
After seeing Brian Ho's infamous cowgirl routine, I also became motivated by the desire to become good enough to do a really good freestyle (probably on Pump, since I have less sentimental attachment to its songs). Still not there yet, though.

Gosh everyone keeps saying that...and must I keep reminding you all that DDR will not pick up girls!! Maybe in some situations, but for the most parts, girls just like to watch and giggle and then leave and forget that it ever happened. lol.Sandman wrote:I play so I can look cool//sexy for ze girls... ^_^
