I dunno on that one. MonMotha may know more on that stuff.

Anyhow, did the random 11-13 WTF selection and it gave me Pumptris Quatro double 13 so that will be the first chart.

You can in fact glitch additional perfects. On Zero, especially, intentionally attack back to back holds (recall that holds on PIU normally need not be attacked) and you will, sometimes, somewhat randomly, get an extra perfect out of it. Similar tricks work on NX-NX2. Most of the stepcount glitches involve holds.

There's also some super weird money score behaviors on some versions. On Exceed 2, for example, it's possible to increase your score by up to 400,000 (in pathological cases) vs. a full perfect combo by intentionally getting goods in certain places.

I wonder if anyone has exploited these in tournament play. I would almost call it legit in that often takes just as much skill to intentionally perform badly on cue as it does to perform well. See: TaQa good attack.

I'll take a look at Pumptris Quatro the next time I play.

I never really liked the way Pump handled holds. They way over-inflate a chart's stepcount to the point where you can't look at a song's stepcount and go "Hmmmmm, man this song must be pretty hard it has a lot of steps!"

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the answer is yes. Exploiting them reliably in a tournament setting would require substantial skill. On many songs, e.g. Phantom, there's substantial risk of missing the start of one of the holds and breaking combo which, on most mixes of that era, including Zero, will destroy your score compared to ANY full combo (even with goods). The extra perfect would be worth, IIRC, 1000 points on Zero, but breaking combo would take 50*500 = 25,000 points away from you, assuming there's > 50 steps left (including hold ticks) in the chart when you do it.

I demand that this thread has a well kept OP and revolving thread title whenever a new song is chosen.

Sure, I'll do that if you join in on our challenge.

Logistically that would be incredibly impractical for me. Is Latitude 360 the only place in Indy that has an actual real ass Pump cabinet?

The one at Dave and Busters works well enough if you don't mind Pro 2. It's also pretty damn cheap if you're willing to work all the specials.

The one at Latitude is generally nicer, though, and Infinity is quite a bit nicer than Pro 2 IMO, though I still prefer mainline.

For the purposes of this "challenge", Greatimes may still have their NX, and scores on that would be "correct". It's kinda janky to play, though, being a high-mileage SD.

The one downside to infinity is that the timing window feels very lenient to me compared to Fiesta EX. Hell, you know several of us with cabinets, ask one of us!

Dunno if you have tried it yet, but I did a quick play of it and got nine misses on fiesta ex as I'm not used to those holds. This is harder than most 13s to be honest.

I haven't tried it yet. Probably tomorrow.

Harder than most 13s? Oh boy...I can't wait. </sarcasm>

I tried it last night. I did not even pass. I was feeling a bit sluggish and I have some minor sniffles today, so I'll try again when I'm a bit healthier. Although I feel like this is at the fringe edge of my current ability level, so I'll be happy/surprised just to pass it--nevermind get anywhere near your score.

Yea, the WPF 11-13 random select hate-fucked us on this one. Next round is your pick once this one is over.

So yeah, that has to be one of the hardest doubles rated 13 on the game. I'm really not sure what orifice they pulled that rating out of, but it's definitely harder than many of the 14s.

ANYWAY...

Stepcounts: 1110/8/0/0/11 (Pro mode not in use)
Combo: 589
Infinity accuracy: 98.7%
Infinity money score: 2,232,200

Interestingly, my first attempt was surprisingly close despite making numerous errors from not knowing about the tempo changes:

Stepcounts: 1114/7/2/5/4
Combo: 540
Infinity accuracy: 97.64%
Infinity money score: 2,231,200

I suspect I could full combo this with a couple more attempts, but I only played it twice.
