If you ever get an error like that, please copy the full, exact error text in any bug report you may make. It really, really helps let me and Ho know what's going on, even if it may seem meaningless to you.
The April Fool's joke involved no database changes whatsoever, so I'm guessing the web host's database was just broken for a while. That happens occasionally. It usually comes back up within an hour or so, sometimes rolled back to a previous state.
