I think the bots are trying to stage a coup, we better find a way to stop them before they destroy us and siege our base. We may have lost a couple battles but we will not lose the war.

Strategy ideas:
image verification
e-mail verification
administrative account activation

It's not a terrible idea...I only signed up over the summer because I found my old IndyDDR shirt from DAT ONE. If not, I wouldn't have known.

Still, leave it open for now. Might be good to see some people playing that don't know about the site and invite them.

Making it harder for bots to register and spammers to operate is certainly on my list of things to do. Unfortunately my list of things to do is

about 10 times longer than this, and updating these forums unfortunately is not too high on it. I have some nice ideas, but implementing them takes time.

Why not just do e-mail verification? That and maybe make the person answer a question about DDR to join. Something easy enough that anyone who isn't a bot could get it.

Email verification IS on. There is also one of those jumbled text/image CAPTCHAs. They're passing both of them.

Believe me, I'm meaning to fix it (it's on my list of things to do this week). It's just that both me and Ho are very busy people. The codebase on this site is rather custom (some portions of phpBB have been entirely rewritten), so it can take a while to patch things in.

Make every user that signs up write a 500+ word essay on who they are, where they're from, and why they want to join the community.

That should pretty much eliminate any new members. :P

Brandon and I are as annoyed by it as anyone. You should notice that we at least try our best to clean up as best we can.

I've tried setting some things in motion this week. Please hold tight. It's not that we don't want to do it or don't see the need to...it's just a matter of finding the time to make it happen.
