Looks like an arcade DDR tournament. Haven't seen one of these in a while. There are a number of other games too. Prolly free money for anyone that's decent at fighting games.

Do I need to buy a Gencon pass to get into this?

Because this sounds pretty neat.

Holy shit it is going to cost me $100 to play these fucking games?

$80 for Gencon

$20 for arcade

That really changes my feelings regarding this...

Since I already got a pass for Gencon (it was free, nuff said) it looks like I'll have to hit this up at some point.

Well, you're paying for the con. Most cons are expensive, though I agree that GenCon is a bit more. If you aren't interested in board/card gaming, well tough titties.

8 hours is $12. You'd pay more than that in 2 hours at a normal arcade. The extra cost, for me, is totally worth it to play games I seldom, if ever, get a chance to see. I've paid way more in both cost and travel time to play this stuff. Hell, we paid the cost of a night at a hotel, price of games, and price of 2 cab fares just to go to Gemini.

Luckily (but sadly) I don't have to think about it cause I'll be in Florida eating cinnamon scones and visiting my sis. But fate always has a way of laughing at me and showing me a DJ Max Technika machine.....

Yeah I know but this is strictly paying a hundo to play games that I could literally play for free up at Ho's basement if he didn't hate me. Gemini was really just an added bonus to the Vegas experience.

I mean, it's not a bad price at all if you were already going to Gen Con but for those of us who aren't going to Gen Con then a hundo to play these games isn't that great. Technika and Taiko are really the two games I don't have the option of playing anytime that I want to so I'm kind of on the fence for this.

1 day pass plus 8 hours is only $62. What would you be willing to pay? You can work for me.

This ended up being pretty cool. I didn't track how many hours I was in the arcade, but it was probably more than 10. Pokebis and Amp were there more than I was.

I got to play a whole lot of Technika and Taiko, sometimes with no line at all. The machines were also spaced pretty far away, so just about everything was audible. The guys running the event suggested commenting on the GenCon forums if we want to see it back next year.

I did run into a guy talking all sorts of crap about how great he was at rhythm games and how long he's been playing them. He claimed Taiko was too easy and he had all the top scores after one day. After he found out I was from Indy, he let me know he was from Cleveland and that Cleveland DDR players are so much better than shitty Indiana players and how we're 'rivals.' Note that I'm a pretty cool guy in arcades, and I never once said anything confrontational to this fellow.

He was also really bad at Taiko, pretty overweight, and looked like he was in his late 30s. I never saw him play DDR, but I can't imagine he was any good. Why is everyone from Ohio such a fucking tool?

He was playing the left drum (top player.) Clearly a top tier player.

Other GenCon games included Puzzle Strike, Cosmic Encounter, Ascension (ended up buying it), Flash Duel, Yomi, Descent, and High School Drama.

EDIT: So I posted this right before watching the Vertical Video Syndrome video. Me dumb.
