Although I would imagine that a IIDX tournament (around here) would have somewhat smaller participation than a dance game tournament, so hopefully it wouldn't get too painfully long.
Well, this is done for two good reasons. First being that unlike DDR and ITG, IIDX relies on keysounds which plays on both sides of the machine so that does tend to throw players off. Second being that by splitting it into rounds it makes things go much faster as the overall time for a round with 10 players would take only an hour and a half to do then the finals themselves would take less than 30 minutes. If there are a large amount of players though many tournaments hold a no charge or low charge ($1-$2) qualifier to see where the players are at before they continue into the actual tourney. (Also, some non-official tournaments would bring in CS releases to use so the process is pretty fast.)

The one thing that I wish would happen with IIDX is that they put in some VS capabilities like DDR and Pop'N have courtesy of E-Amuse. The Pop'N 14 Top Ranker used Taisen Mode between 3 players at a time which made that tournament go VERY fast.

Make it a IIDX doubles tournament. Problem solved! :D

Um, I think the only people who have a substansial amount of scores for IIDX 14 Key gameplay would be me and Ho which would be completely one sided.

Dude, I play double...
A normality test:

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

It seems like it would be a reasonably interesting contest...

Seems like we have some Doubles competition. We should also have a freestyle competition also.

I say it's one sided cause I can't play 14 key all that well. (My right hand is nothing short of gimp.)

Also, if it happened on the same day as the DDR tourney, I would be unable to even show up as I will be in Cincinnati for a 2 week period thanks in part to Uncle Sam's Moronic Children.

According to your VJ Army scores, we would seem to be at least reasonably well matched.

I'll play vs. Jeremy then. I can beat some 5s on doubles, but I'm still hard pressed to pass 3s & 4s.

*goes steals the Beatmania machine*

I'd love to see that happen actually. However, the closest Pop'N machine is at Bowling Green so we'd have to use one of the console releases.

Given how good Bloomington events usually are I'll have to attend more of them now.

Wasn't there talk of changing the Tekken 4 machine into a Pop'n machine?

I do believe there's a certain level of complete illegality that mucks up that plan.
