You could record on a VHS tape with one of our TVs, then go to the library/fine arts building and use the little boxes they have there to record, that's what I'm using to make these game reviews for http://www.gamezombie.tv.

So yeah, I bought an S-Video/Composite output cable for my PS2 for about $12. It turns out however that my particular version of the ATi Radeon X800 PRO video cards does not support Video-In / Video-Out.

So I ordered the video capture card that Amp linked to earlier in this thread with the hopes that it'll be what I need to capture video. It should be here by Monday at the latest I hope, Newegg has great shipping so it could even get here by the weekend if I'm lucky.

Audio however is going to be a different story. I don't use any fancy sound cards, just the motherboard on-board sound hardware. Do those usually have audio-in capabilities? The capture card I ordered only does video so that's not going to be any help. Will I have to buy a card that will accept audio-in? How much do those cost?

Also, my TV does not have audio-out so I'll have to buy an audio splitter. Can I pick one of those up at Radio Shack / Best Buy?

Yes, almost all motherboard onboard audio systems support audio capture. Sometimes, the physical connector is shared with the surround outputs. Consult your manual.

You can buy audio splitters at Radio Shack (unless they stopped carrying them in favor of more cell phones). I'm not sure that a place like Best Buy would have such a thing, but it's entirely possible.

If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Yeah, I just looked on-line and my mobo supports Line-in audio. It's the little light blue jack right? The one I've never ever used.

But anyway, I'll need an adapter for the audio to go into my computer right? Something like this?

One other thing, what software will I need to do all this? I've been playing around with VirtualDub but it appears that the capture card I ordered has some issues with it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Got a few more things today for this little project of mine. I got a female to female RCA coupler and a male to male Composite video cable to act as a sort of extension cord. My computer and TV are a kinda far away so the cord was needed in order to get the sound from the PS2 into my computer and video to my TV.

I also got this:

in order to capture the sound. It captures sound flawlessly and it even uses my computers speakers for sound output. Does IIDX support 5.1 audio? If so then that would just be fantastic.

All I need now is wait for my video capture card to come in and I'll be all set for making videos! It sucks going from Component to RCA but I guess that's a necessary evil if I want to capture video and sound.

Any tatsujin video requests?

Not that I am aware of (IIRC, it does somewhat sensible things if you use the digital output on the playstation, but the songs are not mixed in 5.1). You would need a TOSLINK capture device to capture it anyway, and I doubt you want to buy one.

Most capture devices support S-Video. You can buy S-Video splitters, as well, and that would allow you to run S to both the TV and the capture device. S-Video quality is generally very good (on par with component) if done correctly.

You should also talk with Ho about tatsujins. He may have some things to say.

Unfortunately my TV only has composite and component inputs. Why it doesn't have the middle ground I have no idea so I'm going to have to go with composite.

Oh well, whenever I'm not capturing video I can just use my component cables.

As for making really professional looking tatsujin videos, I'm looking right now into just capturing the screen image. I would like to perhaps in the future get a top-down shot of my hands but I don't really have any good video recorder device. My digital camera can hold about 45 seconds of poor quality video but that's about it, I've posted two (albeit silly) IIDX videos before on this website where I used my camera.

If I can get a camera for cheap that I can use to capture my hands then that'd be great!

Well it all came in and after some tweaking it works wonderfully

Here are some Tatsujin videos!

V [7]

First Resolution [7]

Tell me what you guys think! The sound on the First Resolution video is kinda jittery at times for some reason, if anyone could give me a fix that'd be great!

Thanks to everyone who helped me out in this thread, I'm glad I can finally make IIDX videos!

Merk, you need to make sure your VIVO drivers are up to date and properly functioning. Also, if you are using AC'97 based sound, you might want to get a real soundcard for capturing audio.
