cool...the 9th style+ cabs use a d terminal to connect to the display
yeah, i completely forgot about the hardware upgrade after 9th style so happy sky is useless because you're on completely different hardware
also you get +5 nerd points for your lag test. that's quite cool.

I did not know that they were running the videos off of an actual DVD player for the latter releases. There's nothing about that on the hardware info that I had seen and yet they have a mjpeg decoder in the hardware for some reason. This does explain why the eariler console releases had horrible video quality.

Through 8th style, the videos were on a DVD as plain old DVD video. You could put the DVD in any DVD player and hit play. In 9th style and newer, the PC handles the videos on its own.
The audio for the old hardware was stored on a hard drive hooked up to the Twinkle hardware. The DVD player used for video is entirely separate and is controlled via a serial connection. There is a video daughterboard that combines the two videos (similar to a chroma key, but likely with defined regions rather than a chroma color) for display on the output screen. This would also explain their use of 480i - that's what you get out of a DVD player (at least one that old).

A normality test:

If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

We are talking about the older styles, not 9th and newer.sam wrote:they aren't on a dvd player
they're stored within a data directory on the hard drive. so is the music.
it'd be impossible to have all the data from 10th or 11th style on a dvd. it's almost 13 gigs of stuff.

No worries, I'm not really interested. I actually prefer CS Drummania to AC because you can use a real MIDI drumkit, setup the drum pads in a more realistic arrangement, and use an actual bass pedal that's more springy and less stompy compared to the arcade.Amp Divorax wrote:I just hope he doesn't buy the Drummania 6th Mix Machine from Anderson's Putt Putt cause it's one of the few machines I regularily play on!
About the only reason I'd ever be interested in DM AC would be if I could get it along with GF and KBM and do a GF5/DM4/KBM3 Super Session setup. Frankly, I'm not really all that into any of those games, but just the novelty of having what would probably be one of the last remaining Super Session sets would be killer. However, I don't think I really have the floor space for such a massive setup.

Alright, eariler this week I went down to Ho's place along with Jizzon to check out the machine. I have to say that he did a f*cking awesome job cleaning it up after seeing the before and after pictures. It makes me glad that I never saw it in Putt Putt Fort Wayne cause I would have probably suffered a stroke. Hopefully he'll finish work on perfecting the hookups for PStwo/PC which would be espically awesome.
One thing I should mention, watch out for those easily bored cops in Noblesville.
