You probably don't need 4th and 5th unless you get fairly into the game. 3rd is handy to have because it has bunches of old stuff. I'm not sure that 3rd CS has HS4 (it does have low speed 1 AND 2, though).
It has low speeds?!

I know which style I'll be playing for the next several months. ;)

Something that I have to mention is that there are substansial differences in the high speed modes between 3rd, 4th, and 5th styles. In terms of speeds, here's a full summary of what their actual speeds are.

3rd style:
HS1 = 2x
HS2 = 3x (HS2 and HS3 not in arcade version)
HS3 = 4x

4th style:
HS1 = 2x
HS2 = 2.75x (HS2 and HS3 not in arcade version)
HS3 = 3.5x

5th style to 9th style:
HS1 = 2x
HS2 = 2.5x
HS3 = 3x
HS4 = 3.5x (HS4 didn't appear until 6th style)

10th style and newer:
HS0.5 = 1.5x
HS1.0 = 2.0x
HS1.5 = 2.25x
HS2.0 = 2.5x
HS2.5 = 2.75x
HS3.0 = 3.0x
HS3.5 = 3.25x
HS4.0 = 3.5x
HS4.5 = 3.75x (This and HS5.0 introduced in RED CS and Distorted AC)
HS5.0 = 4.0x

As for Low Speeds, I think the few games that do have it go like LS1 = 0.5x and LS2 = 0.25x

Would bmUS fit under the 10th style and newer category? Because, I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but to me it feels like there's a HUGE difference between normal and HS1, and a much more subtle difference between HS1 and HS2, HS2 and HS3, etc.

The only difference between 9th and 10th styles in terms of speed is that they added the 0.5x incriments.

In the case of Beatmania US, it fits under 5th-9th style.

HS4 didnt start until 6th style. 5th is still only HS1 thru HS3. and they are more similar to 3rd styles and not 4th styles.
