IIDX Controllers

Post by Amp Divorax » Mon Jan 02, 2006 1:18 pm

Alright, I'm getting sick of the KOCs to the point where I opted to go for a Desktop Arcade IIDX controller. One of the main reasons for this is that it is more into my price range at $225 and is very customizable. I know I will probably catch some crap from Jizzon on this one as I opted for Cherry Switches and DA's buttons instead of Sanwas. The reason for using DA's buttons is that they have a very similar feel, as for the switches I would have jumped to Omron, but I don't feel like having anymore issues with my right arm in general. Currently I am 5th in the queue and should be getting mine in at the end of the month as a conservative estimate!

So, what's your controller?

Well, I'd say that mine is much like my Pop'n ASC but without the buttons.

I just sent out my Japanese KOC and hopefully next week I should have the Desktop Arcade IIDX Controller. Thank goodness for the Beatmania US release or I'd be unable to play.

US IIDX controller all the way. I had the money and considered getting a doubles deck from Desktop Arcade last October but the creator of the DA ASCs kept pushing the release date back and my money eventually got spent on other things.
Oh well, I'm quite satisfied with the US controller and I didn't have to shell out more than $200.

Well, getting Arcade Styled Controllers are rather costly so I can see where you are coming from Merk. The US controller got rid of the sticky key issues and if you got one of the good ones the turntable is rock solid. In my case I was going for a much more arcade accurate experience, albeit the only major difference in my DASC is that I have opted to not have LEDs for the keys/turntable as I don't really see much of a point for that in home play.

have you tried the wax paper mod on the KOCs? It makes it feel so great! You really should try the mod before you say it is too sticky...the design for the turntable is kinda shoddy at best...they've used the same design they used on the crap ass ascii controllers for beatmania for psx waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. slipmatting the controller makes it feel like a real turn table.

Sam, I was referring to the actual keys and not the turntable as I have never had a problem with the JKOC turntable. I should have clarified on that one.

ah my bad...yeah, that's what made me sell the jap controller when i had one waaaaaaaay back in the day. the us one is perfect though for me... just wish it had some sort of exposed plastic i could use to clamp it down :\....i mounted it to a huge plywood board so it'd stop sliding

Yea, they made the controller too smooth on it's bottom. The best way to correct that is to put it on a surface that won't let it slide whether it's taping, mounting, gluing, or whatever works! Another issue is that the fact that the KOCs are in my opinion too lightweight. I know the DASCs are not much heavier, but having some weight does help offset sliding issues.

I usually play with the controller in my lap as well. I play like this mainly because I'd rather sit down while playing and I have no table at a height that is comfortable to play on. If I'm not on the TV or sitting in the position I usually play in then I generally do a lot worse for whatever reason.

i find i don't have enough room to move my elbows sitting down and lose placement of the turntable sometimes. i have the con mounted on a piece of plywood which is clamped down to a barstool...works like a charm

I am thinking of buying beatmania US.. but I fear the song mixes... if I do, I will go all out and probably build something for it to go on.

I play with the controller in my lap, but once I get the DASC I'll have to get a small keyboard stand so I can play sitting down due to how large that controller is.
