Video capture feedback

Post by BakaOrochi » Thu Jul 21, 2005 2:54 am

I've been capturing/ripping PIU videoes for Bemanistyle recently, and I just got a capture card (which unfortunately doesn't capture above 320x240 without making the video look distorted, but it's good for keeping file size down I guess).

Unfortunately, my MPG decoder pooped out on me, so I can't playback these videoes smoothly. Could any of you be a dear and let me know how these look?

If you can't view it for whatever reason, please let me know too.

-I already know that some parts of the video gets slightly choppy, but I think that's because of the game rather than the encoder.
-I know some frames do get dropped, but I can't tell how badly some frames get dropped (the encoder claims none or almost none were dropped).
-The videoes I'm most concerned with are the last two. I threw up Valenti as comparison since that was the first video to be encoded, and the last two were one of the last I did. I have about 20 more.

I only watched the first two, but both of them seemed to be quite alright.

The second one had some slight (and I mean very slight) jerkiness at a few parts, but I only really noticed it because that's what I was looking for.

Everything looks hunky dorey to me. Maybe a dropped frame or two here and there, but nothing I'd complain about.

I remember you explained to me that the older, pre-Exceed backgrounds were more like sprite animations and weren't stored as movies. But is there any reason you can't rip the Exceed era movies straight out of the game rather than capturing them?

Either way, your efforts are appreciated. Some of these background movies are really pretty cool. It's nice to be able to sit and watch them without a bunch of arrows splayed all over them.

I would LOVE to make straight rips of Exceed movies if I knew how they were encoded =/

I'm sure in PS2 Exceed they're encoded the same way, but I'm not sure. I just took info from what a friend told me, I've never bothered investigating it myself (although I probably should).
