If you look around, there's some other good shooters out for consoles now. Castle Shikagami is for PS2, a vertical shooter that's only 15 bucks and not bad for the money. Gradius V was pretty good, and can be found for around 30. Also give R-Type Final a try. Over 100 ships to unlock, and the levels change depending on how you play the game.

sorry i read the crappy translation wrong....RS still doesn't work :(

also I have found eMule to be a great resource for anything hard to find...at all...

I was walking around gamestop, and I found Mobile Light Force 2 for $5. Pretty fun shooter. I think it's the prequel to the Castle Shikigami series. I'd check it out if you get a chance.

Recently picked up Silplheed for the PS2, pretty hard shooter.

What are some good flash/java shooters?

A little bump on this thread. There's a pretty good 1/2 hour long show on the history of shmups. It is in french, but you can download subtitles.
