PSP

Post by Fluffyumpkins » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:28 pm

I just dusted off my PSP for some Patapon 2.

Any game suggestions, old or new? I have almost 0 interest in JRPGS and sports games.

I can't tell if you're making fun of me since I don't really care for the Final Fantasy series (which you know) or you're just giving me honest recommendations. OR BOTH.

Honestly, those games aren't JRPGs but they come from a series (Final Fantasy) that is the epitome of JRPG. Those games really aren't that bad though to be honest, Final Fantasy Tactics is a game that is notoriously fun to break but I think they might have fixed some things in the PSP release. They did add a bunch of shit though so it probably balances out. The game is as grindy as you want it to be, you can honestly hit level 99 on your first battle if you really want to but the rest of the game would then be a cakewalk. I've lost my patience for grindy RPGs these days, but I'd enjoy going through those three games if I could play them.

Basically it was a very well placed and well executed troll.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games ever and has no hurf durf anime cliches that Chad so delicately appreciates. The PSP re-release is much much improved in terms of the writing and added cutscenes, it's the best version of the game available and has a few new classes and multiplayer modes. You might like Half Minute Hero but IMO it gets old kinda quick, but it has a lot of quirky humor. Some more:

-Rock Band Portable is decent in that it plays exactly like Amplitude
-God of War: Chains of Olympus
-Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
-Little Big Planet
-Pixeljunk Monsters is fun if you like pseudo-tower defense games.
-Lumines 2
-DJ Max Black Square is pretty awesome
-Crush (trippy puzzle game... http://www.gamespot.com/psp/action/crus ... ead-review)

Also check out http://www.metacritic.com/games/psp/scores/ but I think you'd enjoy the games above

Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles
Pop'N Music Portable (Warning: this game can get NIGHTMARISHLY hard on the PSP control scheme, but 7 button and 7 button modes thankfully make it playable at lower levels.)
DJ Max Portable 1 (Preferably Korean version for Dreadnought)

I've done the following:

DJ Max
DJ Max 2
Patapon
Patapon 2 (in progress)
Loco Roco (didn't like it)
Every Extend Extra
Lumines

I'll probably try God of War, Half-Minute Hero, and Space Invaders

Half Minute Hero is GREAT!!!!!!! Hard but the most fun I have had with my PSP since ever.

Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles is great cause it has Symphony of the Night on it :D.

Persona (although a JRPG) is great and not as much of a grind as others in the series.

Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution are good (also JRPG, but have a SNES rpg feel)

Final Fantasy Tactics is the only good FF game on the PSP (unless you lived under a rock for years and never played FF1 and FF2 which they are shiny and in widescreen on PSP; crisis core sucks fan boy dick and so does dissidia)

My psp mostly gets used to play PS1 games in all honesty >_> like Wild Arms and Saga Frontier 2 and Xenogears
