Mushihimesama: The most horrifying Shmup I've ever seen!
Ok, for those not in the know, I'm kinda notorious for destroying Shmup games left and right on my setup at home. However, I recently just saw Mushihimesama for the first time ever and I am legitimately terrified. For those people who have seen this game, FEEL THE FURY! Oh, this footage is just the stage 2 boss which is one of the 'easy' bosses.

Wow. Now that is truly some BS. But makes me want to play itAmp Divorax wrote:Ok, for those not in the know, I'm kinda notorious for destroying Schmup games left and right on my setup at home. That doesn't even look fun.
But that's just the hardest mode right?

Check out around 4:00.
As far as danmaku, this game makes DoDonPachi look simple.

Ok, I've burned the PStwo port of it to DVD and it's f*cking psycho. I checked out all 3 modes and saw that on Ultra they actually put a warning screen (I wish I was joking, but it was like the DDR Warning screens) before playing. I need to find some other people locally who are fans of shmups to get them to see this game.
I should also mention that there is a sequel called Mushihimesama Futari which was done in the same vein, but unfortunately it hasn't seen a console release. (Lord knows since Cave only made 150 'black label' machines available it's begging for one.)

First video in the original post is pretty damn easy compared to a lot of stuff I've seen. I like schmups I wanna play.

Well, Fluffy decided to play spoiler and post up the final boss as it appears in Ultra Mode. To say the least though, I'm still yet to beat that version of the boss and I'm getting close to clearing arrange mode.

There isn't much to spoil. The boss vomits little pink dots all over the screen.Amp Divorax wrote:Well, Fluffy decided to play spoiler and post up the final boss as it appears in Ultra Mode. Also, anyone tried Guxt? It is made by Pixel (Cave Story)

Jeez, and I thought Galaga was hard.
I had to Google 'schmup' that's how out of touch I am

I enjoy them myself. I found a neat little French documentary show on the subject. Let me see if I can find it again.Amp Divorax wrote:The bullet hell games are hated by alot of people, but personally I like them.

A few new notes on the Shmup scene.
First, Cave has recently released a new DoDonPachi game, but for some reason they made it so that it would be more accessible and easier to beat. (That ruins half the fun of Cave shooters!) Seriously, the fact that the game had enough bullets to cause the hardware to suffer slowdowns (of note being the fact that the PStwo port of the first Mushihimesama couldn't handle it all either, which is a testament to how psychotic a 2D game can get.)
Second, I got to see the official Cave DVDs for Mushihime-sama Futari and it's a really good thing to check out when it comes to learning strategies. One major highlight is that the DVDs are at 480p at 60 fps so it looks awesome. One gripe that I have though is the fact that they don't have god mode from the Black Label edition of the game. While there are only 150 of them in existance, it's harder than Ultra and worth showing!
