Halo 2 did a lot of stuff right that most FPS games haven't pulled off. The amount of balance in the levels is just amazing, and the online system cant even be touched by another game. Most online games, if the host leaves the party, the game ends. In Halo, if the host leaves, the game just switches hosts and resumes.
When Halo 1 was being made (for the mac originally) when they showed it at E3 nobody cared. It looked crappy and it seemed just like another FPS. After M$ bought them and they created it for the Xbox, they fixed up the game a bit and released it. People went nuts.
I didn't really see many ads for Halo 2, and I didn't buy the game because I saw the ad. I'm sure most people were the same way too. Most people bought the game because Halo 1 kicked ass and it was certain that Halo 2 would also. Everybody who says "Halo 2 doesn't have anything special, it's just more guns, more levels, and more vehicles." hasn't really gotten involved in Halo's community. Step back and ask yourself why such a "crappy game" could stand up to be the most played game on XBL for two years.
I'm not a Halo fanboy, I'm just a hater of ignorance.

Yeah, it took Halo 1 which required skill to play, turned Master Chief into a panzy where he depends on his overshield and he can take very little shots before he dies, gave him a throwing arm of a 6 year old so his grenades go nowhere, and turned it into a fan boy game that those who sucked at halo 1 one were like gods at Halo....other than messing up a great series, and taking the story in a different direction than the books, halo 2 did jack shit.letshavetea wrote:Halo 2 did a lot of stuff right that most FPS games haven't pulled off.
Anyways I agree Wolfen, I will stick with Unreal, Timesplitters, and Quake, hell I would take all the old Duke Nukem and all the Doom games before I'll play another round of Halo 2, don't get me wrong I do plan on trying 3 but not immediatly. Of course then again, I have been getting better at Counter Strike and FEAR to care about halo.
Uhhhhhhhh Unreal Tournament?????letshavetea wrote:The amount of balance in the levels is just amazing, and the online system cant even be touched by another game.
Hell, even Tetris DS has an good online system.
People were going well nuts about Halo WELL before Microsoft got their hands on it, if you had been paying attention. Also, Microsoft RARELY works on other people's games. They just own Bungie is all.letshavetea wrote:After M$ bought them and they created it for the Xbox, they fixed up the game a bit and released it. People went nuts.
Oh... you mean...

This is all I see.
Because there was seriously a lack of working online games on Xbox. And not really ANY other shooters.letshavetea wrote:Step back and ask yourself why such a "crappy game" could stand up to be the most played game on XBL for two years.
Yes... you are. Sit down son.letshavetea wrote:I'm not a Halo fanboy, I'm just a hater of ignorance.
I don't think Halo did anything really innovative or better than any other FPS, it's just the first console FPS to really nail online multiplayer. It's a pretty solid game gameplay wise, and the only reason I think it really succeeded and still lives on is a large variety of multiplayer modes. It may be one of the better console FPS, but then again, it doesn't really have much opposition. It's fun to play every once in a while, but I don't think I could really go back and play any console FPS seriously after playing CS:S and other PC FPS games.
What other games on XBL did everyone else play? Maybe it's just my school, but it was the "cool thing to do" to play Halo / Halo xbl. Like Riot said, it's popularity is there because it doesn't really have much opposition.letshavetea wrote:Step back and ask yourself why such a "crappy game" could stand up to be the most played game on XBL for two years.
Can get ahold of me @spookyxcraig
