NEW music-based game -- call for music

Post by malictus » Tue Jun 20, 2006 10:23 am

Hey everyone, I am currently in the initial stages of developing a BRAND-NEW music based game!!! I don't want to give too much away, so suffice it to say it's a PC game that's a cross between a music game and a puzzle game (Tetris, Bejeweled, etc.)

I have only gotten as far as fleshing out the initial concept so far but I'm really excited about it. Of course, I could work on this a week or two and then abandon it (I do have a habit of doing that sometimes), but I don't think that'll be the case.

Anyway, I'm putting a call out for original music to be used in the game. The only requirements are that it be electronic and primarily instrumental. Techno, trance, IDM, etc. etc. etc.

PM me if you're interested (OrangeLounger, I'm looking in your direction ) I'll probably send out a message to a wider audience later, but I wanted to keep things local for now...

If it's course-based (a la DDR or Beatmania) I'd love to help out with charts and difficulty levels/tweaking. It doesn't sound like it is, but I'd still like to help in any way. Even so much as testing. I have Fruityloops too, but I'm not as good as Joe in making music.

I'd love to beta test. Lol, I would like to contribute with the music, but there're two problems:
1. I have no music composition program, and
2. I would probably not be able to make anything of "quality".
So yeah. I could prolly get past at least one of the two if I really tried, but...

No, no, Green Tea, you're supposed to say you can program in C and then wait for someone to ask you, "Major or minor?" And if you don't think that would occur to anyone on this board, I'm insulted.

Also, I'd be game (no pun!) for contributing something, though it would probably be an interesting experience on both sides; most of my synth work tends to be longer than is appropriate for your typical music game.

I can't believe nobody has said this at this point...

I can program in C#

It really had to be said. I should point out that while I can program in C# (and C, and Java, and assembly on more architectures than you can probably name) that I'd rather be doing hardware in most cases.
A normality test:
+++ATH
If you are no longer connected to the internet, you need to apply more wax to your modem: it'll make it go faster.
If you find this funny, you're a nerd.
If neither of the above apply, you are normal. Congratulations.

Hardware? Is that an atonal system of some sort? :P

More architectures than I can name, huh? Hang on, let me find a place to host the list.

Yep, I had a feeling you'd say that. So, when I'm ready to build a custom controller for my game, I know the guy to call

I was going to say C# but unfortunately I do not know C# :/

Very interested in charting the puzzles. I don't have means to compose music but I'd probably be far better in the technical aspects of gameplay.

I still want to do this eventually, but work keeps delaying me.

And, I was very disappointed when I first saw Lumines, since it looks quite similar to what I had in mind :(
